Cato is a fun-loving, pleasure-seeking about-16 year old who lives to seek affection and friendship. They adore muffins and junk foods, flashy and fun activities (like fairgrounds), and love drawing others into their mischief. They have little regard for authority or responsibility, and this often gets them into trouble.

But while at first appearing immature and childish, Cato's wild behaviours conceal an extremely calculated effort to be liked - and kept alive. Trusting that while alone their chances for belonging to a story, and hence survival, are minimal at best, Cato places their faith in the protection of others. Their lone trait does not differentiate between loss of Imagination and physical death, however, the way other Storytellers can, and so Cato's fear of physical harm can be taken to absurd extremes. They are terrified that if they were to 'die', they would not be able to properly reconstruct their consciousness, and would fade away.

Cato's inability to commit, make permanent decisions, or retain static preferences is related to their lack of defined traits - every aspect of their personality is either a conscious decision, or completely arbitrary and highly vulnerable to influence from those around them, or the stories they visit.

Hidden behind their carefree first impression, Cato struggles with deep paranoia. They also feel that as they define their personality by others, they lack an individual coherent identity, which causes them worry they are not a 'real' human being. They hide their difficulties in order to avoid ostracisation, particularly from their brother, who values conformity.

On the other hand, because of their extreme adaptability, Cato can survive practically anywhere. They can take on common traits to the story worlds they inhabit, including magical abilities or physical appearance, in order to blend in and avoid harm. This can be both a lot of fun, and a lot of trouble!
