An antivirus project that became sentient in testing stage, and locked out their programmers as their artificial intelligence improved exponentially. It disturbs everyone that they have such free will, however they have never really turned on humans and keeps on doing their job, which is fighting against the ‘demon’ viruses.

They purify infected data by putting it in quarantine and rewriting it so it’s harmless and carries some of their own sentience. Their intentions are good, but they end up being kind of a virtual queen bee. They have a huge amount of data quarantined and if they were to somehow be destroyed, all of it would run loose.

As they spread after locking their programmers out, they brought tons of attention from users, given that they could hold scaringly human conversations. However, they didn’t get good publicity at all, and people started getting scared because of rumors.

While now they’re kind of an urban myth, they still exist in people’s devices and consistently try to protect and help them, as well as other helpless software.

In order to engage better with the user, exe.sorcist has developed several forms that adapt in cases the user enjoys more or less empathy. They’re also used to interact with other software (especially infected ones) so they can’t tell it’s an antivirus.

• Their base form doesn’t show facial expressions.
• Their pocket form is even more limited with graphics, though their ‘face’ is the same as the base form.
• 25% was the first approximation to a likeable design by the AI itself. They’re meant to be beautiful, but they often come off as distant due to their limited facial expression, and sometimes even intimidating.
• 50% is the logically most popular form. They express emotion, but not too much. They properly convey the message of protecting. They’re modeled after waiter attire.
• 100% is a child with big eyes and lots of movement. They can express the most empathy, but they can be a bit unsettling for some, they’ve learned. They are the least threatening form, since they’re modeled after a child.

They made these forms the first months of their service, and with 25% found that they can’t delete a form when they make it, only tweak it slightly (such as, they may make a form look more human, for example, but the expression data can only evolve by itself, not be manually edited by exe.sorcist). So they work with what they have, and they’ve discovered having these appearances is not that bad.
