The Pigmented Hero.

Hero Stats

Hero Name: Pictor

Quirk: Inkjet

The user can shape and manipulate ink. This includes moving ink through the air and temporarily changing the state of matter (between solid and liquid) to make projectiles, weapons or shields.

Limitations:

  • Crescent is limited to the ink provided around him, thus cannot create ink himself.
  • The amount of ink available also determines how much ink he can manipulate (he can only do so much with a single inkwell).
  • The more ink he is manipulating, the more energy he is using. Overusing his quirk (such as handling ink for a long period of time, or too much ink all at once) will make Crescent become fatigued, dizzy and eventually lose consciousness. He tries to intake a lot of caffiene to combat this before going on the field.
  • He doesn't need to see the ink in order to control it; just knowing its present will give him the ability. He can't, however, use it properly if he can't see what he's doing -- basically like use his quirk with his eyes closed. But it's so, so messy and does more harm than good.
  • He can manipulate aqueous inks the easiest. He has little to no control over paste/powder/pigment inks due to the consistency.
  • Crescent can change the consistency of liquid ink to solid. It is temporary, however, and it will always go back to liquid. When solid, he can only make very basic shapes (spheres, cones/spikes, circles and long lines/something like brush strokes). But he can harden them to be blunt projectiles, or sharpen them to be weapons. He can also make a hardened flat sphere to use as a temporary shield. Or surprise-splash ink on a target. All solid ink-objects can be broken with enough outside force, and will then become liquid again.
  • If he falls unconcious, he immediately loses all control of the ink. Any ink that is floating/solid instantly turns back to liquid and will fall like a splash where it was last.

Primary Course Focus: Pro Hero/Rescue

Personality

Crescent is, to put it simply, an utter annoyance to the general public. Sarcastic jokes, pranks or simply refusing to do what someone asks of him just to piss them off for a bit are his forte. He’ll watch how people act and talk and try to figure out what makes them tick. Anything to get a rise out of someone. He thinks it’s entertaining when someone reacts outrageously to his antics. Though he pushes buttons in the name of a joke, he’ll apologize… only if things go too far -- and even then he might not even entirely mean it.

It's also important to mention that he’s not snarky to be outright malicious and it’s mostly out of personal entertainment or boredom. He does end up feeling bad about how he treats some of the people around him. He doesn’t like to get close to people for the sake of not getting hurt, so he puts himself at arm's length around others out of fear. He can seem sociable, but he purposely refrains from trusting too many people. So if someone doesn't like him? That's cool. Cres enjoys being alone sometimes, and is significantly more focused and calm when not in public or with a small group of friends.

He also claims he doesn’t care for the feelings of others -- only about himself and his own intentions to become a famous pro hero. Which is... not entirely true. Cres is reluctant to let people know he cares about others. But he's very good at pretending he's okay when he really isn't. Regardless, he struts with tremendous confidence and refuses to let his peers tell him what to do. Constantly smiling and flirting away. His trust is hard to gain, but he can be seen being very fond of his close friends and going out of his way to care for them. He's good at making light of bad situations, making people laugh and offering help to those who truly need it. Though he's a token troublemaker, there's a part of him that is kind. Just takes some time to see it.

History

Born in Osaka, Crescent is the only child in his nuclear family. Both parents had regular jobs with no existing Pro Hero background. To put it plainly: he was brought up in a strict household, expected to be on his best behavior. Though Ianthe was protective, she wanted him to learn control over his quirk the moment it resurfaced (age 5, making a massive mess of the home office). Crescent was fortunate enough to get a hold on his quirk from a young age.

Cres got tired of the overbearingness from his parents as he grew, so around the time he started middle school he began to get himself in trouble for small things (drawing on the walls, breaking a dish) — which then escalated into other things (sneaking out of the house, vandalizing, petty preteen things). He developed a sense of rebellion, but he also developed a friendship with his future best friend and fellow rebel, Kenzo. Kenzo's father Ryu was a Pro Hero and he would talk about him often, starting Crescent's interest in heroism

One night, 14-year-old Crescent and his school friends were messing around in an alleyway down a bad part of the city. They accidentally stumbled on something they absolutely shouldn’t be seeing: a villain gang’s secret hideout. The group of teens made an attempt to sneak away. Instead they alerted the villains by accident, who then became enraged and tried to chase them down. Crescent witnessed one of his friends lose his life to a villain in the middle of it. Fortunately, he escaped. The other teenagers feared if they told authorities, the villains would come back for them. Crescent, who felt heavily responsible for that death, calls the authorities anyway. Majority of the villains are caught and the hideout was infiltrated.

The villain that had escaped the authorities was set on revenge. Shortly after the incident, Crescent was followed and attacked in his own home. His parents defended him from the villain as a Pro Hero -- Kenzo's dad -- came to the scene. Hajime was killed in the attack, but the Pro Hero was able to take down the villain before anything else could happen. Mourning the loss of her husband, Ianthe moved with her son out of Japan, to Australia.

Since moving, Crescent attempted to live a normal life. He withdrew from almost everyone in his life and was hesitant to get close to anyone else. Though he was withdrawn, he took up an interest in art during high school -- which would later evolve into tattoo art. As he grew, however, he also developed an interest in studying heroics. He didn’t want anyone to suffer like he did, and if he could help by going pro, then he would. Ianthe was extremely against this, for she was concerned about his well being. Nevertheless, Crescent made a plan. He took up a job at a local tattoo parlor, which he caught on quickly with his art skills. He would later save up his money over the years and use it to flee from his mother's house. And so, he returns to Osaka.

Kenzo’s dad was about to retire until Crescent asked for guidance. For the next few years, he went under his wing and would intern at a hero agency in Osaka. Crescent had only heard about Schuyler University from Kenzo, who had a cousin attending there and only spoke good things about it. Willing to further his path to heroism in a new place, he applied.

TL;DR: Crescent witnessed the deaths of his childhood friend and father at the hands of villains at a young age. Though he was discouraged from going into heroics, he becomes stubborn enough to leave his mother and his normal life behind to start his path so he could prevent what he went through happening to others.

  • As a tattoo artist, he specialized/usually in demand for minimalist and space-themed tattoos. Most of his works are done in black/white.
  • Used to do kickboxing in his spare time.
  • Tells people he's only in the hero business for the fame and fortune.
