It is hard to get past Kanikau's cold exterior and very few could claim to actually know her. Her personality clashes with most others but she respects stubbornness and honor shown from other sirens, even if she doesn't agree with them. - Kanikau cannot read or write as she never had the need to in the sea. She is fluent in the language of the sirens which consists of clicks and whistles not unlike dolphin speech. She also knows some Hawaiian and assumes she originally was from the Hawaii islands.
- Appearance
Kanikau has very dark skin and thick navy afro curls. Her eyes are a bright amber with a matching māhū pō. Like every cursed siren, her legs are bound together with ragged bands of scar tissue with webbing between her fingers and jagged gills ripped into her neck. She has an old scar starting at the left corner of her mouth to her cheek. - Likes

- Backstory
Kanikau was turned into a siren at the age of two years old and then abandoned, causing her to forget anything about her human life. The mermaids of Sereia found her and cared for her as one of their own. However, there was a large blowout and Kanikau and the Sereia pod split. Eventually tensions led to a civil war that wiped out both of the pods leaving only Kanikau and Mateus. In this fight, she also lost her sunken ship home and had to move by a coral reef where she resides today.

Respectful Frenemy
Kanikau and Trevor initially did not get along as their moral alignments are drastically different. However, as they got to know one another, a respectful alliance grew. They still disagree on the majority of decisions that come up but neither of them are wanting to tear out the other's throat. Progress. - Hilahila
Wayward Friends
Hilahila was the first diver Kanikau turned and added to Carmina Abyssi. Kanikau taught Hilahila everything she knew but their relationship wavered after Hilahila discovered that Kanikau had cursed her into a siren. Kanikau then convinced her to turn Hilahila's former fiancé and they looked past the turning. - Paakiki
Enemy
Kanikau couldn't care less about Paakiki. She finds the elder rude and pushy, that leading to many arguments over who was truly in charge. - Huhū
Sibling She Never Had
The first time they met, Huhū tried to kill Kanikau and she broke his wrist. He was very quiet at first, still controlled by Paakiki, but eventually Kanikau convinced Huhū he was important and worth having an opinion. They have a friendly rapport. - Olakino
Chill Podmate
Olakino and Kanikau know each other, trust the other's choices, and remain at a distance from each other. They will never be close friends but are comfortable discussing important topics. - Koe
Mortal Enemy
After Koe and her old pod got caught in between the siren war and all of Koe's podmates were killed, they have hated each other. Kanikau is indifferent about a few more deaths, none even connected to her, and Koe blames Kanikau for the deaths of her friends. - Keiki
Quartermaster Apprentice
After Keiki was paralyzed, Kanikau convinced her to become her apprentice, coming up with the rank Quartermaster. She can't decide if she dislikes the teenager's sarcasm and back-talk; she didn't enjoy dealing with a moody teen but approved of her sass that reminded her of herself. - Fun Facts
