these, our bodies, possessed by light.

owing to his upbringing in a temple, nuri is greatly devoted to his deity, fervently following the deity's tenets and commandments. he is greatly knowledgeable of his faith's sacred texts and philosophies, as well as its rites, rituals, and history. in keeping with his deity's commandments, he deeply believes in doing what is right and just; and compassionate, always willing to help those in need—even at the cost of his comfort and safety. he strongly believes in others' capacity to do good, which may come off as naivete to some.

because of his insistence on following his deity's commandments strictly, he may come off as prudish or rigid: he does not partake in alcohol, and does not consume certain foods.

however, nuri is also a man of secrets. he keeps his mouth shut—literally and figuratively—about himself and his origins, ignoring the question or diverting to other topics.

tell me we'll never get used to it.

the confines of a temple were the only things nuri knew for all his childhood. his mother relinquished her role as head of the temple shortly after his birth; his father, a self-proclaimed wanderer, decided to live in the temple to raise him and be with his mother. fondly does he remember the smell of incense, the hymns of the clergywomen, and the taste of homegrown food.

this peace, however, would be disrupted by a raid on the temple. many are killed in the raid, including his mother and father. he himself nearly died that night—if not for the help of a mysterious man, his mentor. despite his mentor's efforts to find a treatment, be it with medicine or magic, the injury that almost killed him—a deep slash across his throat—rendered him permanently mute.

as a sign of gratitude, the young nuri accompanied him and learned the ways of a paladin. for years the two roamed the land, keeping guard over towns, escorting merchants, apprehending bandits. once he had learned all he could, he left his mentor's side and began his foray into adventuring on his own.
