Often referred to Inugamiyama ( Moutain Dog God/Spirit ), Hinata Fujimori is far from such. Once a groundskeeper for a wealthy family of Inugami-Mochi, Hinata grew envious of their lavish life, and of how even the family's prized bear dogs were treated better than he.

Eventually growing tired of it, Hinata steals away to the mountains with the family's most prized dog, his intention to hunt and slay a great bear to garner his own fame and wealth. However, in the bitter and blinding cold, Hinata became lost and even the bear dog's nose could not find their way. Plagued by hunger and troubling dreams for a weeks worth of nights, Hinata finally decides he must draw his knife on the dog to survive.

Unknown to Hinata, the dog was the family's loyal Inugami, who lead him to his despair for his acts against the family. Consuming the flesh of the Inugami, Hinata's living soul was corrupted and he himself became the Yökai he is today. .
