About
Kohaku is best described as the quiet mom friend. While shy and more reserved from people who may not know them, Kohaku is also... shy and reserved towards friends most of the time. They will gladly info dump on your ass if a topic comes up that they find themselves having knowledge in or just is fond of. Friends will constantly try to get them out of their comfort zone through small things, usually clothes. Even then, Kohaku is just a nice person who can be cautious of new people they they don't know very well. They are also a quiet person in general because they are selectively mute.
Likes: clothes gifted from friends (or any gifts from friends), people who know sign language or even just knows whatever gestures they are making, LGBTQ people, friends and loves ones, ANYTHING scientific about space and space exploration, watching documentaries while doing another task (like laundry)
Dislikes: people who make fun of their gender identity/ways of chosen communication, overly greasy foods (like DRIPPING with grease) and a lot of processed foods, their own teeth (too sharp and scary in their eyes), biased zodiac/astrology B.S (mostly because theirs sums them up well and they wanna be mad about it)

Quick rundown: Kohaku can create boxes and shields using organic energy through their body that have varying degrees in temperature.
Long details: Kohaku's quirk is all about energy. The plasma boxes and shields that they can make feel like a thin membrane, so they can easily be 'broken'. The shields and boxes also have different temperatures that require different amounts of energy. The lowest is normal body temperature (37C / 98F) and takes very minimal effort to create. These shields are a purple color. The medium is a raised temperature of around 65C / 150F and require a bit more energy to get the temperature higher and to keep that temperature consistent. These are more of a brighter reddish purple. The highest peaks at temperatures of 104C / 220F - 110C / 230F. Hot enough to start boiling water as a point of reference. It is a bit dangerous for Kohaku to get to the third level so they typically never do that one. These shields and boxes are a more brilliant red in color.
How their quirk works is that Kohaku eats or drinks food with calories and electrolytes, which store in his body. These shields and boxes are formed from their fingers (and can be made through gloves/fabric covering their hands). With the shields or boxes made, this results in a high amount of calories and electrolytes being burned, especially at the medium and high levels. This results in Kohaku having to eat a lot of calorie-dense and electrolyte-dense foods before training or practice. They always have a snack or two in their bag as well.
There's benefits/additional facts about Kohaku's quirk of course. They can move the boxes or shields around very easily and they stay in the air where they are placed. The shields can also be 'doubled up' so they can be stepped on like temporary stairs or a chair. Though the drawbacks can be a little serious. The two other levels of heat intensity can burn people, including themselves. Not to mention as they are moved around, they lose their heat. Every ten seconds after they are created (and not broken), they drop down five degrees. (example: if the lowest heat shield is created and is there for 30 seconds, it is now 28C / 83F)
Character
Kohaku is a good person and always has good intentions. They're always going to be honest, but they only have a decent charisma and humor to them. They're also pretty smart and are a quick thinker with a ton of patience. Thankfully with a low temper as well. They know when to bail on something, but aren't quick to bail. Courage wise, they do their best. Sometimes there are things you can't be courageous with, especially when it comes to your own life (even though they view this as selfish sometimes)

Story
Early childhood
Kohaku was similar to their dad in terms of being quiet and reserved, but this time it was actually because they were shy. When they were little, there were many kids who would make fun of them because of their sharp teeth and purple skin. Which is shitty because it's part of his genetics and there were other kids who had strange quirks too. Either way, it really hurt them growing up! No one ants to make them feel like they're different in a bad way. Slowly over time they started talking less and would speak only when spoken to.
Despite the early bullying in their life, Kohaku was pretty happy and had a love for heroes and anything space themed. Thirteen, the black hole hero, was his favorite since she was really the only one that is space themed. They also liked Gunhead since Gunhead is just really cool.
tweens
As they were getting older, Kohaku would stop talking for long periods of time and become selectively mute. They would learn sign language of both ASL and JSL online, but that doesn't mean everyone around them knows sign language. It was hard and the teachers weren't keen on them using 'hand gestures' to talk, but they always got an earful from their mom.
Kohaku's parents assumed there was something wrong and would try to figure out why they wouldn't talk anymore. It was heartbreaking to them that their child wasn't talking anymore. No matter how much they tried, Kohaku wasn't budging.
In reality, Kohaku isn't exactly sure why they fully went mute. Sure they didn't like their sharp teeth too much or the cracks their voice was going through at the time, but they also just didn't like their voice in general. This is when Kohaku started finding more about themselves in terms of gender.
When they were thirteen, Kohaku found out that Osamu, their brother, was bisexual. This is when Kohaku started doing their own research about gender, the binaries, sexualities, etc. It took him a while, but Kohaku played around themselves and realized they don't feel like a boy at all, but they also don't feel like a girl either.

Kohaku would be encouraged to enter U.A since they wanted to become a hero themselves and would completely ace the entrance exams, written and physical. Ever since then, Kohaku has been training to become a pro with their fellow classmates. They are in class 1-B and are decent friends with most in their class.
Currently, Kohaku is in an internship with Gunhead's hero agency and currently has their hero license. They go on patrols and are well liked by many kids with how kid friendly their costume is.

- Is a perfect example of 'taking parents quirk traits to make something new'
- Kohaku is only called 'Koko' by family and family friends since it was a name given to them from their older brother when they were both very little. Other nicknames include Haku, Scorch-Field, and Kib
- Hero name is Nimime (knee-mime) and combines ninja with mime
- Doesn't mind their given name, but also goes by 'Haku' since it is more unisex than Kohaku is.
- Knows Japanese, English, and Chinese sign language and plans on learning more along with teaching others if they want to learn it
- Has really sharp teeth and never show them unless they are eating, since that's unavoidable
- Mute! Doesn't talk unless it is dire and life threatening!
- If he does talk, his voice claim is Finn Wolfhard
- Really loves stuff dealing with space. They wouldn't want to go to space since that would be terrifying, but they just find it interesting
friends and family
His lovely mom! She is the one who actually taught him some sign language when he was little (thank you, please, etc) with how quiet he was. She slips on the pronouns sometimes and really doesn't like that they don't speak anymore, but they don't take it to heart.
His dad is kind of the same as his mom. Confused by the pronouns and confused by them being mute. They do have their fun together and sometimes watch videos about planes. Or bloggers on planes taking cool photos.
Even though they have a very significant age difference, it doesn't feel like there's one at all. To Kohaku, their older brother is only like a couple years older (its actually six!). They text a lot and Kohaku goes to visit him a lot.
They've been friends since middle school and even though they aren't in high school together, they're still really close and will hang out a lot. Oftentimes Ross will walk them home after school and hang out for a bit as well.
