Busy Bee runs an apiary in the country side away from the cities and towns of Canterlot, Ponyville, and the like.
She sells honey however to every town and city she can make a connection with and has become rather rich in doing so (though you couldn't tell by looking/talking to her)
The fake beewings on her back are just that, fake! They serve no real function other than to look pretty.
