Story: Night was the youngest in her family, and grew up with her siblings Tabin, Mallow, and Tallow, her father Domino, and her abusive alcoholic mother Drell. Her best friend was Fleck, who she had known since she was very young. One day, when Night was in high school, she came home to find her whole family dead. They'd been murdered in cold blood by her mother, who then took her own life directly after. Night had only been spared because she had missed her school bus and came home late. She ended up moving in with Fleck.
As the two got older, they became furious with the state of their country's government, and began plotting with other cats to overthrow their leader. Fleck ended up being the head of the movement, but he needed more help than just regular cats. With Night's extensive knowledge of robotics and AI, she began building an android army to help Fleck in his rebellion. She built herself an android vessel too, as she knew she wasn't fit for fighting but still wanted to help on the front lines.
One night, as she was walking home, she was recognized by a police officer on the streets. He attempted to arrest her but she resisted, and the situation escalated very rapidly to the point where the officer drew his gun and shot her in the chest. Some passerby on the street also recognized Night and attacked the officer, allowing Night to escape back to her lab. She had been planning to transfer her consciousness to her android vessel, but not so soon, and she didn't know how the upload would fare with a mortal wound like hers. But she also knew that if she didn't take the risk of starting the operation she would bleed out, and the android army would be all but a lost cause. She climbed into the machine and began the upload.
Just as the upload hit 91% completion, Night took her last breath and died in the booth. The computer briefly short-circuited before stopping the upload.
Night awoke as a spirit, but something was wrong. As she opened her eyes, she saw another spirit of herself sitting in front of her. The second spirit opened her eyes to show that they were blood red. Before Night could even react, the second spirit bolted to the side of the android vessel meant to house Night and dove inside, taking control of it and running out of the building.
The second spirit, who came to call herself Slash, turned the tide of the rebellion. She burst through the window of the country's dictator and tore out his throat, then appointed herself the new leader of the country before unleashing her android army on the rest of the government officials in the room. Fleck, who wasn't entirely sure what had happened to Night, ended up having to fight Slash himself as she declared that no cat was fit to live in this country. "All you do is fight, fight, fight! You may as well be living in the woods again! The only cat fit to live and to lead is an android!"
Night was following Slash through the bloody trail she left in her wake, and quickly deduced that Slash was just the bad traits of Night, the cat warped by the abuse she suffered from her alcoholic mother. The computer had split them in two during the failed upload. They were, at the core, the same cat, two sides of the same coin.
The horror came to its head when Slash and Fleck faced off in a final battle. Slash tore through the ranks of the rebellion, killing enough cats to hamper the enemy and ending the battle by slicing Fleck's stomach open. Night, who was watching in horror from the sidelines, snapped. She leapt onto Slash's back and pulled the spirit out of the android, sending her hurtling across the battlefield as Night slipped inside the android and took control. The red eyes turned to green as she stared down at the bloody mess under her paws. Finally succumbing to her grief, Night buried her nose in Fleck's fur as she mourned her best friend.
