Description

Erik is in his mid-twenties, slightly taller than average height with a lean build not unlike what is often seen in rangers. He has dark, shaggy hair that goes to the nape of his neck, and lively blue eyes alight with mischief. He's charming, roguish and very good at improvising and thinking on the fly. This does make him a bit of a loose cannon where plans involving multiple people are involved, as he has a tendency to do his own thing if an opportunity presents. Erik is quite the free spirit and enjoys roaming the world, and while he does have his own moral code, he's generally quite easygoing and absolutely not opposed to bending a few rules if it gets the job done.

Erik usually wears dark/camo colored travelling gear by default - boots, gloves, a cloak, and two mismatched daggers (Dagger 1 and Dagger 2) strapped to his back in leather sheaths. He often looks grimy due to long travels, and his clothing is worn from hard use. As he tends to collect keepsakes from his travels, his clothing isn't as perfectly matched as the fashion police would like, but he does try to keep to darker colors for practicality on the road.

Abilities

As he wasn't trained in the Krytan Academe, Erik's methods and fighting style are decidedly unusual. Most elementalists trained in the Academe cast large spells from a relatively safe and stationary position, while Erik fights more hand to hand with a lot of improvising. He's adept at using his environment to his own advantage, and comes up with new spell combinations on the go as required, such as firebreathing, steam cover and lightning-assisted speed. He also imbues his daggers with elemental power to assist in battles. His maneuverability and utility necessarily means that he lacks in raw firepower and range, but Erik's never really been one for dramatic, drawn-out battles when a well-placed dagger could end things much more quickly.


History/Background

Orphaned at a young age, Erik is the heir of the noble house Mackellan in Divinity's Reach. As a child he had no interest in politics or claiming his title as the Lord of his house, and had a great passion for travel and discovering the unknown. Upon finding a strange old man living on the outskirts of the capital city, Erik begged to be apprenticed to him after seeing the man's ability as a mage. The man begrudgingly agreed and taught Erik in unconventional methods, using daggers as conduits instead of a staff. Erik vanished from his household to pursue his training, and was presumed dead by his house. He travels often across the furthest reaches of Tyria, and took the name "Maelstrom" as a surname of his own making.
