ABOUT
"... I don't owe anybody anything. I didn't ask for this — yet, here I am. This is my life and I'll live it for myself."

Arielle is a magician who runs a successful apothecary which also provides services in fortune telling via tarot and tea leaf readings. They have an affinity for floristry, somehow possessing knowledge of many flowers and herbs with little-to-no known effort or prior study.

APPEARANCE

Arielle is of average height (5'5'') and rather lean, though it's not immediately obvious underneath their large, draping side-robe. Their skin is dark, with a large scar on the side of their neck, as well as with three small notches along both of their earlobes. Their hair is a warm brown, shaved along the sides and pulled into a wild ponytail, with a single thick lock of pale, gold hair that hangs loosely at the side. They enjoy wearing large, loose clothes with warm, earthy colors.

PERSONALITY

As a child and prior to their death/resurrection, Arielle was extraordinarily bitter and jaded as a result of extensive physical and emotional abuse. While they escaped their abusive family's cult-like environment, they continued to present a guarded, cold, and irritated nature, even after settling into their new, stable home and/or shop.

As of present and after their resurrection, their demeanor shifted to one more immediately pleasant and charming—without the burden of their unwanted history weighing them down, they simply enjoy life as they know it currently. While they may occasionally lament their lost memories, they have no qualms about letting the past remain lost to them.

BACKGROUND
EARLY LIFE

Born and raised in a strict, cult-like, matriarchal family, Arielle was the middle child of five children—the only 'not-boy' of the bunch. Much in the same manner as their brothers, they were branded with the family sigil as an infant, representing the claim and bond placed upon all children to serve the family for life, abiding to the rules and expectations placed upon them without question or comment. For Arielle, this brand was as good as a death sentence.

The small family cultivated and sold their own flowers and herbs in a small, dry village, making little contact outside of their ‘family’ unless in relation to business or private tutoring that the five siblings shared under their mother’s watchful eye. Arielle’s duty among their brothers was to help their mother maintain the storefront—this included anything from professionally engaging with customers before they could see over a counter, to learning and eventually recording/maintaining the profits made.

Most children lived their childhood in submission, accepting their roles in the workshop and among each other as brothers—except Arielle, who was an outlier among their siblings. As the middle (gender-nonconforming) child, they were scrutinized and regularly mistreated, which their brothers accepted as normal and justified, making no effort to defend them from any instances of physical, emotional, or mental abuse at the hands of their mother.

In addition to their reluctance to comply with the standards put upon them, they discovered their inherent affinity for magics, unknowingly enchanting flowers and herbs. This manifested more directly to them in their ability to create light in their palms when faced with extreme emotions, normally onset by extreme stress.

As teenagers, Arielle grew extraordinarily distant from their brothers—their only sibling to attempt to bridge the distance was Samuel, but even he couldn’t understand their aversion to their treatment. Any effort at non-conformation was met with aggression, resulting in physical and psychological abuse—this stage of Arielle’s life was rife with grief and hopelessness, exasperated by their isolation. Arielle suffered through this abuse while their brothers were praised and lauded for meager accomplishments—meanwhile, Arielle doubled down thanklessly, maintaining the storefront of the family business after the suspicious passing of their father.

Arielle was only seventeen when they resigned themself to one of two fates—to either cut the bond forced upon them at birth, or die trying. This was met with vehement aggression from their mother, who only saw fit to remove their sigil by burning it off, as well as tearing out their earrings, a familial symbol of femininity. They faced this final punishment with unflinching resolve, even as their life teetered over the brink from the blood loss and pain—the only thing keeping them bound to life was their magic as they unknowingly began healing, slowly, but surely.

FREEDOM

In their newfound freedom, Arielle began their travels towards greener lands—they were not built for surviving in the wilderness, but they managed long enough to find a new home in a small nation of trade. The lifestyles were different and overwhelming, but Arielle managed with the help of a newfound companion who took them in as they collapsed upon entering the city, and later on as his magical apprentice.

At this time, Arielle was still rife with trauma affecting their day-to-day, having developed a rather bitter and distant attitude, even in the face of greater opportunities. Despite their tendency to be sour, they quickly became known as a great fortune-teller and healer, at one point being drafted (in the absence of their master) to help the kingdom find a cure for a deadly, magical plague.

The plague only affected those with magic imbued in their blood, body, or soul. As such, it was a dangerous task for Arielle to undertake, but they had no choice, subjecting themself to the ill and the dead on a whim. Unlike some sorcerers, Arielle was seemingly unmoved by the pain and death they witnessed—they regularly assisted during autopsies.

Like many others, Arielle fell victim to the plague suddenly, becoming violently incapacitated. At this point, the death left in the wake of the plague had peaked—eventually, all the ill were required to exile, herded into isolation offshore. At this stage, the ill were simply burned alive to avoid the spread of infection. Arielle was no exception.

POST PLAGUE

Arielle’s master was devastated by the loss of his pupil and dearest friend, returning to their home in an effort to resurrect them. The process required relinquishing of part of his soul and half of his remaining lifespan—under regular circumstances, they would’ve been brought back entirely intact with all of their memories and faculties, but their master did not give up his life and body in its entirety. As a result, Arielle was revived without their memories or the immediate ability to perform basic tasks. They were rehabilitated for three years, relearning how to eat, write, and speak.

As of present, Arielle has regained all their faculties, but retains no recollection of their past before their death. Any effort to recall their past is frequently met with migraines that leave them catatonic—however, they find much satisfaction in their life as it is and prefer not to recall.

Their personality has shifted from sour to passively pleasant, unaware that they were once entirely bitter and jaded.

RELATIONSHIPS
ARGUS CASPIAN

Having nursed Arielle back to health after they had collapsed in the city, Arielle initially was wary and distant towards Argus. They slowly lowered their defenses, but still retained a considerable emotional distance from Argus, who cared very deeply for them. He cared so deeply for them, he sacrificed part of his soul and half of his remaining life to resurrect them after the plague claimed their life—however, the resurrection was incomplete.

With no prior memories of him, they only know how patient and kind he has been towards them as they were rehabilitated. Their bond now is stronger than ever, and Arielle often awaits Argus' return from his many mysterious ventures

MAVERICK VLASTOMILE

An enigmatic man, Maverick and Arielle's fates crossed upon the plague's draft for skilled healers. As they worked together, they slowly grew closer in aiding one another — eventually, aiding each other in chasing away their mutual loneliness. Later, Maverick discovered Arielle had become infected after their work healing the ill lead to collapse. In a flurry of concern, bitterness, and hopelessness, Maverick revealed their illness to their higher-in-commands. This revelation lead to Arielle's death.

After aiding Argus in a ritual to resurrect Arielle, Maverick became disgusted with his actions quickly thereafter, unable to tolerate being near Arielle — a reminder of all his mistakes. They have shared brief encounters since and Arielle holds a heavy curiosity about Maverick, a man they swear they have never once met or known.

As children, Samuel made mild attempts at bonding with Arielle, but never pushed to form a true unconditional connection. Currently, Arielle has no recollection of him and would have no emotional reaction to meeting him as a result—much to the devastation of Samuel.

MINERVA VALDIS

Hatred and bitterness can only barely describe Arielle's feelings towards their mother as a child. With no recollection of her, they would not tolerate or subject themselves to her inevitable attempts at harassment and reclaiming her possession of them.

  • Raised with their siblings to help run a business in selling flowers and herbs—Arielle retains great knowledge of plants, as well as excellent accounting skills.

  • Escaped and became a well renowned healer and fortune teller under the teachings of their master. Despite their master’s kindness, Arielle was jaded and bitter.
