Valentin is an Olympic-level sportsman competing in the luge, and that's something you'll learn instantly upon meeting him. To put it nicely, Valentin is confident; to put it honestly, he's incredibly egotistical. Obsessed with being the best, Valentin is highly competitive and it shows in almost all of his actions.
