Mary Hopps

A master of disguises, Mary’s early life as a daughter of magicians is no surprise to anyone who knows of her incredible disguising and acting abilities. However, Mary herself is a calm person not caring much for the spotlight, and she prefers keeping low profile while working together with her friend in the detective agency they have set up. Mary is a kind and rational woman and she is known to be very orderly and neat, and although she wishes to be what is considered a “proper lady”, she has a thirst for an adventure she doesn’t seem to be able to quench…

Mary is known to be an excellent speaker, being noted to be able to talk her way in or out of almost anything. She is also charming and persuasive, and can be manipulative as a way of achieving an outcome she perceives as good. Outside of work she can be a bit of a hassle and sometimes gets her tongue tied with words, but when the situation truly calls for it, Mary is an excellently adapt speaker and a conversation partner. Although she is not notably social by nature and prefers staying at home, she very much enjoys company and is always delighted to have a visitor. 

Unlike her skills in disguises might suggest, Mary isn’t a very flashy or particularly attention-seeking person herself. She doesn’t seem to mind people mistaking her for a secretary and often doesn’t even bother to correct people, thinking keeping low profile might provide useful for her later on. She likes doing things at her own peace and can get irritated when being rushed. She can be very strict and precise with some things, and she is very orderly: especially well this is seen in her neatly tied room and her extremely organized calendar. Despite what this kind of tidiness might suggest to some people, Mary isn’t uptight or nitpicky the slightest. She simply enjoys order. 

Although Mary wishes to be what is considered as a proper lady, she still has just enough thirst for adventure and to work together with her detective partner and wholeheartedly enjoys it. She can be quite a romantic, and although she is very much familiar with the ugly side of the world, it just seems to fuel her love for the good and ideal even more. While she is predominantly a rational woman preferring wits over feelings, she is a big fan of art, poetry and writing and is known to sometimes write poems on her own. However, she never lets anyone see them, mostly due to her somewhat reserved nature. She doesn’t like sharing very personal things and parts of herself with just about anyone. While she doesn’t come off as a particularly secretive, there is a lot Mary often prefers to keep to herself simply because she feels it’s important to have some secrets too.
