HISTORY

Marelia Viranes (Pronounce Mare-lia Vir-an-es)

-Appearance-
Age: Looks 24.
Sex: Female.
Hair colour: Black.
Hairstyle: Shoulder height and swept behind her ears.
Skin tone: Pale white.
Clothing: Her clothing changes often, sometimes she just wears that of a noblewoman, othertimes the robes of a mage. Often wears gloves and a golden, ruby encrusted circlet, she only wears the Aetherial Crown when she needs to.
Eye colour: Orange/red, glows in the dark.

She's an extremely powerful Necromancer, able to raise legions of undead at will, she can also call upon the planes of Oblivion to summon Atronach and Dremora. As a vampire, she can turn invisible, enthrall humans and make them do her bidding, she's able to drain the very life essence from mortals via spells or through drinking blood, and she has enhanced speed, enhanced regeneration, strength, and night vision, as all vampires possess.

However, the sunlight will not kill her, and even in the sun, she's a mighty foe, but her healing and energy is heavily weakened. Any damage done to her is severe and will greatly harm her. Fire is another big weakness of her's, even more so than most other vampires.

A powerful and ancient breton vampire whom in life dabbled in the arcane arts, however conjuration was her specialty, raising Daedra from the pits of Oblivion to bend to her will. She was born in the country of Highrock, born in 2E 558, making her approximately 972 years old. She was turned when she was 24, something she purposefully pursued in the name of power and immortality.

As she became a vampire, her interests in the undead were piqued, learning to control and manipulate the dead to do her bidding. However even as a powerful necromage, she still had limitations; raising the dead requires extreme amounts of energy and she could only afford to make a couple corpses her thralls at a time, lest she overexert herself and pass out.

In her eras of research, she learnt much of how to increase her limits, to become even stronger and more adept. It soon became almost an obsession to become more and more powerful any way she could, no matter whether she had to deal with Daedric princes, slaughter innocents, or delve into long forgotten tombs to attain it. But one story soon caught her interest, the tales of the Aetherium Forge, an ancient Dwarven forge told to be able to forge Aetherium, an immensely rare material that is unable to be smelted or shaped by any other forge, and able to create items so unimaginably powerful that it caused civil war between the Dwarves, possibly even leading to their extinction.

It took her centuries to find any clues of Aetherium or the Forge, but she soon gained knowledge of the ruins of Arkngthamz, an ancient Dwarven city said to hold a shard of Aetherium. So she travelled to the distant lands of Skyrim to find this shard, however, she was caught in an imperial ambush near the border, severely outnumbered and she knew it was unwise to cause suspicion of her vampirism, so she was carted off to Helgen to meet the executioner's block, however she struck when the time was right, managing to escape from Helgen and went back onto her mission.

After countless weeks of searching, she finally found Arknthamz, and inside through the puzzles and automatons, she found the first shard. Of course, a single shard without the rest is no use. However, with her luck, she managed to track down two adventurers who were seeking the same. She followed them to Deep Folk crossing, a Dwarven bridge structure, where she struck up conversation with them and showed that she also had a piece, lying about her true intentions and posing as a scholar studying the Dwarves, she convinced them to let her follow along. They began searching through nearly all of the Dwarven ruins in Skyrim, it took months but they eventually all the necessary pieces of Aetherium.

The last stop, was where the Aetherium forge itself was rumoured to be, the Ruins of Bthalft. They crept into the dungeon, now making their way through the puzzles with relative ease, until they finally came across it, the fabled Aetherium Forge. And with this discovery, Marelia killed both the adventurers who grew to trust her, taking the shards for her own. And then, to her amazement, when she put the shard and the materials nearby into the forge, before her eyes, it automatically smithed a golden crown, the aetherium gemstones in the center.
As she walked up to it, the power radiated off of it like a siren's song, drawing her closer and closer. Then she put it on.

Instantly, she felt her power grow, looking over curiously at the corpses of her once companions, she easily raised them from the dead, feeling no strain on her energy in the slightest, she felt like a God, but she was still not content. She became unsatisfied with just simply raising bodies, she wanted to raise spirits from the very depths of the afterlife, leaving her to uncover the mysteries of the Soul Cairn.

BIO

Dawnguard Files

Report concerning dangerous Breton vampire Marelia Viranes. Before any details are reached, reader must know that she must be approached at extreme caution or, if possible, not approached at all.

Current Status: Known enemy to the citizens of Skyrim and, potentially, the entirety of Tamriel. She is currently in possession of the Aetherial Crown.

Last Known Location: Morthal, near Morvath’s Lair

Suspected Threat Level: Very high.

The vampire in question is, as aforementioned, a Breton female. Her appearance is that of a pale skinned, black-haired woman in her mid-twenties. Her attire tends to consist of that of a mage or, on occasion, a noblewoman. Gloves and perhaps a ruby encrusted circlet often adorn her hands. Eyes are blood red, and glow within darkness. Albeit her obviously abnormal appearance, she is incredibly skilled at blending in with the bustling crowd. Awareness is essential.

Her skillset is essentially that of an incredibly advanced necromancer, and is capable of summoning and commanding the dead to do her bidding. She has also been known to have the ability connect with the planes of Oblivion and summon the Hellish Daedra themselves. Of course, she possesses all attributes that regular vampires have, including enhanced speed, regeneration and keen eyesight in darkness. However, it is urgent to note that this particular vampire cannot be harmed by sunlight. Luring her out into sunlight will likely result into a prompt demise rather than the upper hand.

Luckily, there are a few weaknesses that can be taken advantage of. Denying the power of the sun is evidently taxing, leading to enormously reduced healing abilities and energy. A vampire’s natural weakness to fire is amplified within Viranes. Summoning the dead has also been proven to be draining. Within a combat situation, the Dawnguard greatly suggests focussing on the undead until Viranes is too weak to summon anymore, at which point an assault will be more likely to succeed. A swift execution is heavily recommended.

Only two strikes against this vampire have ever been recorded since Viranes became a prominent threat after her conversion in 2E 582. Of course, many more attempts to eliminate this vampire have been carried out, although in most circumstances, no one is left alive to document what happened.

3E 359, 8th of Rain’s Hand: Fyrelight Cave, Skingrad, Cyrodiil.

We received a tip from the city’s stable master that suspicious activity was seen in and around Fyrelight Cave, including strange rituals and reports of Daedric Scamps roaming around in the area around the cave. At the time, very few mages were practicing necromancy, and even fewer had the ability to summon Daedric minions. We immediately suspected that Viranes was residing there after fleeing Cheydinhal.

Ten of our most skilled hunters went to apprehend the vampire already responsible for multiple murders and missing persons around Cyrodiil. They surrounded to cave at around nine in the evening. Reports suggested that many of Viranes’ rituals were carried out under the cover of night.

All but three of our hunters were either brutally murdered or converted in the ensuing fight. They were apparently led into a trap. The tip we received was in fact false, set up by Viranes to lure more victims into her grasp to increase her own power. After only observing the cave entrances for a mere four minutes, our hunters were ambushed by the quick-moving and vicious Daedric beasts, and were rapidly outnumbered.

4E 201, 24th of Frostfall: Movarth’s Lair, Morthal, Skyrim

Morvath and the other vampires that inhabited the lair earlier in the year had been eliminated by an unknown individual, so when vampire activity seemed to increase around that area it immediately flared up suspicion. Our numbers had been depleted following the Great War, and travel into Skyrim was incredibly difficult due to the Stormcloak Rebellion, but we managed to get past the borders following a letter of urgency from Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone of Morthal.

A team of seven hunters was all we could send, albeit armed to the teeth. Luckily for us, Nords are renowned for their skill in steel. Unluckily, Viranes had utilised the entirety of the remains of Morvath’s lair, including the souls and abilities of all vampires whose whispers still lingered there. Her power had increased greatly over the centuries, as expected, but she had also gathered immense support of fellow vampires, not trained in the arcane arts as much as Viranes was, but still highly skilled.

Only one hunter made it back alive, and refuses to go into any more depth apart from what has been said already. Evidently he is still haunted by the ordeal to this day, and we fear a severe case of survivor’s guilt has overcome him.

*

With this report comes a serious warning to anyone wanting to apprehend this vampire. As stressed already, do not attempt to battle her alone. Until a clear, foolproof strategy is devised, we strongly suggest that nobody, whether you are skilled soldiers or righteous vigilantes, try to engage with Viranes. Death is almost a certainty.
