Acrazith grew up on the Caelestis, one of the quelovese's three arks. She kept her head down, doing what she was told. She trusted the Whisperers and, like so many of her people, believed that they wouldn't steer them wrong.

She spurned the elder Whisperer on her ark as she was interested in someone else. The next day, she woke up in a strange room. Beside her was a body, a bloody knife in her hand. Before she had the chance to wonder what had happened, the guards found her and threw her in prison. She insisted that she didn't know what happened.

At her trial, she learned that the body was Talinin, the man she loved. The Triumvirate passed a sentence of exile, long believed to be worse than death. She was dropped at the nearest habitable planet with a day's worth of supplies and what few belongings she could carry. A day later she discovered a knife in her pack, the same knife that had killed Talinin. She scrubbed the blood from it and carries it around as a reminder of what happened.

Somehow, she made it from there to Sloan City.
