Profile

Mary Butcher was born with a unique gift. Awakened as an Adept, her magic power was a fairly interesting one. Constantly overcharged with holy energy, she would regenerate from injuries at a phenomenal rate. In fact, her regeneration was so strong she would spontaneously grow new organs, very frequently. To avoid becoming a mass of organs, she made an arrangement with the FBI. Each week, she would travel to an undisclosed location, be flooded with Unholy energy to temporarily weaken her regeneration, and have all of her excess organs harvested, to be donated. The FBI would also give her a fairly hefty weekly stipend. Now, not only would she not die from having too many organs, but she would save at least half a dozen lives each week.

Now, the plot of her story kicks in when the protagonists learn of a repeated attempt on Mary's life by a group of Mercenaries. Sent to protect her, and investigate the cause of her targeting, they eventually learned something shocking. Mary had grown a second brain in her body, which would control it whenever Mary slept. This Mary #2 had also awakened as a magic user. A Monk, capable of reshaping flesh. But, Mary #2 was trapped in Mary's body, and Mary's magic power was too strong for Mary #2 to reshape her. Mary #2's plan was to steal some of the money from the FBI's weekly stipend, and pay to have Mary be killed so she could form a body for herself from Mary's flesh and escape. Mary #2 was not strong enough to kill Mary herself, as Mary's self-regeneration was so strong that she could not be killed without seriously destructive firepower, but during the medical operations, her regeneration is heavily reduced.

Mary is incredibly saintlike. She is kind and generous and very inspiring. However, while she's not a coward, her generosity and empathy can make her a bit of a pushover at times. If you ask her to do you a favor, she will say yes, even when she would not be in the wrong to say no. She never complains or acts haughty, but the truth is, she would offer sympathy and far too many chances to someone who doesn't deserve it.

Mary 2, however, is a very immature person. She's basically a fully formed adult brain with all the knowledge that Mary has, but with no emotional maturity or experience. When Mary 2 is fronting, it's apparent to everyone who knows her, as she speaks her mind, and throws temper tantrums when she doesn't get her way. The fact that people don't like Mary when Mary 2 is fronting just makes Mary 2 hate Mary even more. She desperately wants to be considered real and her own person. Before she tried to hire mercenaries to kill Mary in her weakest moment, she's tried to kill her numerous times by her own hand, but Mary healed through her every attempt.

  • On one occassion, Mary 2 lashed out at one of Mary's friends while fronting, and heavily deformed their appearance with her magic. When Mary saw her friend the next day, she had no idea what happened to them, and her friend accused her of ruining their life. #angst #edgy
  • Mary is very reserved and polite, but her powers are wild and uncontrollable. On the flipside, Mary #2 is a very volatile person, but her powers are controlled and precise.
  • Mary #2 has an extremely large amount of magic potential, just like Mary. However, her lack of emotional maturity means she lacks willpower and discipline, which is how Monk powers are controlled.
  • If Mary #2 was formed years ago, not long after Mary was born, they'd have practically the same personality, as they have the same DNA and Mary #2 would have had time to form emotional maturity.
  • At the end of Mary's surgeries, they never stitch her closed. The doctors simply apply medical tape and the wound closes up without a scar by the time she comes to.
  • Being magically proficient can also allow you to increase your physical attributes with practice, no matter what type of caster you are. Mary has such an absurd amount of magic potential that even without practice she's physically strong enough to tear a human in two, but with practice she could be an implacable and destructive juggernaut.
  • While her healing factor is a lot faster than someone like, say, Wolverine or Deadpool (to the point where she can regrow a lost limb in a fraction of a second), she could not regenerate from a single cell as many fictional characters that have healing factors do. In addition, her healing factor can be tired out with immense firepower. Both of these things are nigh impossible to do to her so she is practically immortal.
  • Mary stopped aging at the age of 25, and her body will outlive her soul. She's not old though and can easily pass as the age she is.
