Profile
Ever since his soul was taken, Faustus has made an effort to grasp onto any little control he has over his life. He treats his bad habits as an escape, drinking to fall into a haze, to forget the mistake he made. He gambles, though not to the extent that he once did. In fact, he goes further. Money means nothing to him, neither do possessions. He bets his life, taking daring challenges, placing himself in life threatening circumstances. He's cursed to always win through some miracle, almost always unscathed, but certainly always alive.

Though not aggressive, if in a drunken mood he will stir others, attempting to rile them into beating him up. He believes this instance of pain is what he deserves, but it's also what grounds him. He's tried to die many times, but something always stops him. So he goes further and further each time, inflicting pain on himself, trying to find a way to beat the curse inflicted on him, to laugh in the face of the man who took his soul from him. A last hoorah. But he doesn't actually want to die. He just wants to claim his life back. He wants to be able to say "This is my life, and I'll die the way I want, I'll win when I want, the world is mine."
Faustus isn't mean spirited, nor is he cruel or unforgiving. But he's easily taken by desire, and has a tendency to fall into bad habits or relationships. He has an addictive personality, and if something draws his attention, he'll have at it until he burns himself out. He's also highly intelligent, a quick thinker, has amazing reaction time and is excellent at maths. Even if he's blackout-drunk he could calculate a complex math problem, but that doesn't mean he'd do it. Not for nothing in return.
As a young child Faustus would have been considered a “Prodigy” - very sociable, analytical and with wide understanding of both literacy and numeracy. However, growing up Faustus was a kid of very “selective” intelligence. Despite having the ability to excel in many of his subjects in school, he preferred to doze off, play practical jokes and even pretend to be someone of limited intellect to get out of doing most duties. He thoroughly enjoyed maths, and had many opportunities for scholarships, of which he declined all of themHe was rather sociable and charismatic, approaching most others with a pleasant attitude and a little joke or two- quite the people pleaserHis father had left early on in his life, with only his mother to raise him. The pair had a decent relationship, getting along just fine. In his later teen years she fell ill, leaving Faustus to pick up the pieces and take care of himself and her. From this point he’d begun taking part-time jobs, studied less, and eventually dropped out of school to take care of things at home. After dropping out of school and taking on plenty of jobs, Faustus was soon introduced to a darker world… one of gambling.
Faustus’ understanding of maths and quick-thinking, charismatic abilities led him down a path of risk-taking behavior,Wherein he’d been roped into a few gambling activities here and there, small bets and things, some, jokes with friends, others, serious endeavors with strangersHe could break down any situation into parts, much like a dissection, and figure out how things worked, and from there calculate how to “win”This evolved into an addiction, and he would play many games, nearly always winning, taking calculated risks and making bets with just the right personIt could be seen as manipulative at times, since Faustus could pinpoint when someone was willing to bluff or go all in for the sake of their pride, but Faustus would claim that it was all part of the gameHis winnings would always be for his home life, where he was still taking care of his mother. Though he quit his part time jobs, lied to her about still working, and continued to gamble… He gained infamy as “That One Guy That Never Loses”, and began to bet big. And- the more he bet, the more he won, and the more infamous he became in his gambling circleHe was invited to gamble professionally, and did so out of interestHe became disinterested, however, when it became too mundane and repetitiveHis mother found out and warned him against the path he was taking, but Faustus was adamant that he was never going to lose, after all he’d been supporting them both, They had a little… argument, and Faustus left home.
With no one to take care of except himself, Faustus fell further into his addiction and begun exploring new outlets He started to get involved with the highrollers: many businessmen, criminals and influential individuals. His charisma and positive attitude towards gambling and winning made quite the impression on everyone he met, leading him to fall into meeting an unforgettable individualFaustus was soon offered a seat at Regent’s circle and begun gambling with and against him. Some of these gambles were risky, yet rewarding. With every new challenge Faustus was only more and more excited to play along He then put his soul on the line against Regent, and lost.
He tried to reconnect with his mother and admit to his wrongdoings, however she was no longer around to hear his story or advise him. To cope with his loss, Faustus fell into self-destructive tendencies. Frequently getting into fights. Drinking until he passed out. His lack of a soul threw him off his positive and charismatic game, leaving him feeling empty and without much remorse, satisfaction or fulfilmentHe eventually tried to end his life in one of his darker states, but some miracle prevented his death, and continues to do so each time he comes close to such harm. He now wastes his time and intellect drinking away his winnings.
