Nero is a chimera hybrid born with anatomy that his body cannot sustain. His wings have to be not only clipped but eventually surgically removed, as the doubled scapula grew into his lower ribs, some of which also had to be taken out. Nero is also intersex, and was assigned female at birth, with no surgery being done to them because the wing ordeal took priority. This was the best outcome, as Nero insisted on being considered gender neutral for their entire childhood, and when met with a great amount of transphobia compromised to letting some people see them as a boy, saying that he was maybe like 1-3% boy, but completely 0% girl.  Hybrids tend to face social ridicule, and this was no different for Nero. He was not close to most of his peers growing up, but made friends with a friend of the family's child Ran. Their parents were involved in the jewelry business together, and were planning a merger. Nero and Ran dated, but when Nero's father passed, the merged turned into a marriage. Nero and Ran brought out the worst in each other ever since getting the news, Nero becoming pushy, obsessive, and raunchy, and Ran becoming unemotive and withdrawn. They got in a huge fight getting ready for the wedding, in which Nero tried to proposition Ran, and Ran grabbed them by the sensitive and fragile horns, threw them off, and slammed them into the wall by the head. They broke up.
Nero became close with Void Ghost in highschool and was a part of their group of friends, despite not getting along well with Coreah and Voluta. Nero and Coreah just had too similar of stubborn personalities, and Voluta was close to Coreah and difficult to make conversation with. Nero and Coreah did have an embarrassing one-night stand together and agreed to never speak of it again, but mostly they just hang out because they both want to be around Void Ghost.  After highschool, Nero moved out on his own, re-dyed his fur, and changed his name, completely cutting contact with their family. They lived with Void for a while, but when the two started to develop feelings for each other, commitment-phobic Nero moved out suddenly, and while they've made up they didn't speak for several months until Nero apologized. When Nero's mom passed suddenly, Void Ghost went with him back home where he saw his extended family, including Ran, for the first time in forever. They may have "ruined the funeral" by "causing a scene" when Ran brought his new girlfriend.  Nero now lives on his own, but always has the option to stay with his boyfriend, Bato. Bato shares a similar fear of commitment, and while they are stable features in each others lives, Bato gives Nero the freedom to live on their own and see other people as they please.
