Varna was the maid of a royal she fell in love with. She vowed to be with him, and they returned the vow in order to use her. When their relationship was found out, The royal accused Varna of being a Witch, and had her burned at the stake. Varna decided to become a real with to save her life, and made a pact with the carrion patron. While her wings were torn and her body began to burn, crystals of rhodochrosite exploded all over her body and Varna was transformed into a monster, breaking free and killing the royal in revenge. But this was not the end of her pact. The royal would be reborn, and Varna would live eternally to find and kill them again and again. Each time the royals reincarnated, Varna would have to kill them before transforming into a monstrous form yet again.
