Even though Merlot is an Ilosnet, he didn't grow up on his home planet. But as an adult he found his way back and is currently living there. He's been struggling to get a handle on his planet's culture and many things still surprise him. (ex: Homosexual pairings being a rarity) Merlot is a little oblivious to social queues, often laughing at inappropriate times. When it's pointed out though, he quickly apologizes and thanks to being a Ilosnet will literally glow with embarassment. 

When Merlot was very young, he started his modeling career with the help of Terran, a much older and experienced model who happened upon Merlot when traveling the galaxy. Once he started to get his name out there though, he branched off and started to become much more competitive to his once teacher. Their relationship quickly grew into a rivalry that was questionably friendly. He often teases Terran publicly, via social media with absolutely no shame. He's lost a few fans because of this behavior, but the same snarkiness gained him new followers.
