Recently Islington has discovered that some parts of the universe must have blessed him after he realised his wrongs,
He is now a god

Many may label Islington as evil, but he isn't really
Just very morally ambiguous and wanting to further science more then anything else

Some think he may have even done things to himself, but that's not true
not until he knows it won't overtly affect him that is...

His candles seem to almost always be alight and the candle dripping, but it's never gotten any shorter nor burnt down anything
