Etienne

Etienne has gone through life not understanding why she isn't happy like all the other noble ladies who have found their place being a "good wife". Throughout her young adult years she set many expectations and standards for herself based on what she was taught and observed should make her happy. As a result she feels a lot of self loathing stemming from that she can't be happy doing what everyone else is doing, and that deviating from these things tend to make her truly happy.

Finding herself in a loveless, arranged marriage with a vile man, she further feels self hatred for both being happy when he was killed, and for sleeping with his killer and thoroughly enjoying it. Despite knowing of Dier's past, she feels strongly for him and will lie for him to herself so he appears in a better light. Although disapproving of his actions in regards to the use and how his magic is obtained, rather than distances herself, she would attempt to convince him to do things differently.

Later evolves from being defenseless noble lady to skilled swords-woman after (temporarily) parting ways with Dier for a handful of years. 

Very haughty and often aggressive when defending her ideals. Tends to see things in a very black and white manner, leaving little for moral gray area, and often times ignoring that what she perceives as morally right may have more gray than she lets herself believe there is.
