His true form is a huge golden dragon.
When a humanoid, he usually takes one of two forms.
-'Yvir Greenwillow'- as referenced here, a masculine elf or half-elf with brown skin and long dark hair, prematurely greying. Golden eyes.
-'Orianna Jin'- a feminine human or half-elf, heavyset and tall, with light brown skin and dark hair, golden eyes. (ref to come)
He prefers to be addressed as 'he' in the elven form, 'she' in the human form, and goes by either name or pronoun in the dragon form. He usually runs in different circles in the different forms, the main party only knows him as 'he', aside from Neshi, who stayed with her at Maz's tower in the late campaign.
Each of her forms was named by one of her mothers, taking their last name. His Elven mother named him Yvir, giving that form her last name, and her human mother named her Orianna, gifting her her own last name. Each of his forms takes after one of his parents.
Yvir’s real parents were killed when he was still in an egg. He was stolen by an opportunist, who was apprehended and jailed for peddling in stolen wares. An elven soldier and aspiring naturalist found the egg while raiding his place, feared what would be done with him, and quietly stashed the egg, bringing it home with her.
She had a wife and a young daughter, and the family moved to a secluded spot in the wilderness. The naturalist hatched the egg and the couple did their best to raise Yvir alongside their daughter. This proved difficult, for obvious reasons, and Yvir was often cooped up, before he could shapeshift, which led to his dislike of seclusion as an adult. Once he learned to hide his form, his parents pushed him to integrate in society.
Yvir first met Esper upon starting as a volunteer at the Conservatory. He was sent by his parents to ‘make something of himself’ and ‘build some character’ by learning a trade. Esper was a recent volunteer, but also one of the most dedicated and knowledgeable, and they showed Yvir the ropes. Though he expected to hate the job, he found Esper’s enthusiasm infectious, and made caring for the Conservatory his lifelong passion.
He had a crush on Esper, that simmered down to a strong platonic bond as they grew older, contrary to Esper’s early obliviousness, and later infatuation with him. However, these romantic feelings were rekindled after he saved Esper's life in the Knowlege Eater's attack on the conservatory. The two ended up running off together to hide in Maz's Tower, later followed by Neshi, then Rois and Alcea.
