Theme - Woodkid - Run Boy Run

Roz (Back then named Zerah) lived on the streets as a child and has recruited by a guild that taught orphan juveniles to pickpocket and steal for them.

Growing up in this environment Zerah, at a very young age, didn't entrusted his faith to anyone nor put any loyalty in anyone but himself. Which lead to him not having any trouble steeling from the higher ups on the guild if he so wanted to.

Due to this he got into a lot of trouble, both from the guild and the city guard. The leaders caught him but they still wanted him around since he was useful. He did get a beating now and again but that didn't make him stop stealing though, he only learned to get better at not getting caught.

One day when hunted by the city guard Zerah ran into a stone crevice to hide and found a ancient sealed tomb within. Hearing faint whispers Zerah went deeper into the tomb and found, buried in a chest and wrapped in scriptures, a withered tome containing varieties of arcana. Having a morbid curiosity in magic from before Zerah started reading it. Not wanting to risk anyone in the guild taking it, Zerah left the Tome at the same place he found it, only to return the next day except for the days when he wouldn't risk going. Eventually Zerah managed to conjure magic, minor, but magic nonetheless. With this new found ability and thirst for more he started to write his own journal to not forget what he had learned.

With this magic he managed to gain more power respect within the guild and other young delinquents started to follow him. He managed to gain reputation and it did not take long before a school of magic to take interest in him. Being promised more knowledge and a permanent roof over his head, Zerah left his old life behind without a second thought, bringing the Tome with him.

Being about 16 at this point Zerah entered this college of magic and developed his magic knowledge greatly, and no not only following the old transcripts but also adding what the college taught him and his own versions to his Tome, making it grow thicker. As it grew, whatever ominous aura and whispers that had pulled Zerah to the old and tattered book, now started to follow him everywhere. Not only that, even thought he put his sweat in tears in his studying, and his knowledge of magic did improve his powers to wield it, he found himself improving and exceeding way faster than anyone would predict.

One night as Zerah wrote in his book, that now was thicker that the original, he felt the air growing thicker as the sentence of the last paragraph neared it's end. It almost became too hard to breath but he stubbornly wrote on. And when he put the dot on the period everything stopped. And suddenly Zerah was under water.

Surrounded by nothing but darkness Zerah panicked, trying to swim up but to no avail. As his body grew heavy and the strength left him, lights started to appear beneath him and he suddenly saw as a giant aboleth towering over him.

Still underwater Zerah suddenly was able to breath and as he gasped for air(?) the aboleth congratulated him for his diligence and perseverance, and promised him more power if he where to continue this path, with of course some occasional tasks if the aboleth saw fit. Very sceptical and reluctant to let his faith being bound Zerah asked the aboleth series of questions about the pact and what these tasks would entail, where of the aboleth answered vaguely and cryptically, which only made Zerah more frustrated. As aboleth nonchalantly said he could find someone else Zerah quickly asked it to give him time to think about it. The request was granted and Zerah found himself back in his room soaked from head to toe.

Heart and mind racing Zerah could not sleep, which eventually lead him to being careless.

One day someone found his Tome. In the threats of being exposed, Zerah pushed them over the building edge and saw them fall to their death.

He did not get caught nor was he a suspect just yet, but being convinced that everything would come to light eventually, Zerah collected his things, took supplies and scriptures from the college, and left not long after.

That evening, out in the forest, Zerah (now changing his name to Roz) opened his Tome, that no longer looked old and tattered, and submerged beneath water once again.

He could see clearer now, the water was lit green and blue from bio luminescent algae that grew along the walls of an ancient ruin underneath the water surface. And looking up Roz saw the aboleth looking down at him.

"Your answer?"

"I am your pawn"
