So the legend goes, that a greedy snake stole the offerings left to a god and, as punishment, was forced to listen to false prayers for all eternity...
Shalathiel will not speak to the veracity of the legend that follows him, but it is true that he intercepts the prayers and rituals of those praying to beings they have no right to invoke. The choice to ignore, assist, or curse is entirely his own, and his whims on the subject tend to be petty and fleeting. To that end, he has overwhelming control over most forms of magic, and is considered by many to be on par with the gods themselves. (Whether he actually is one or not, he won't tell.)
He lives in a space adjacent to the primary plane of existence. It can be accessed thought any door or passage, but rarely will he allow in guests who seek him; his dwelling is the sort of place you only ever manage to wander into on accident (though always for a reason). Visitors will find that his home, his attire, and his accent always seem familiar to them, such that they often don't immediately notice that they're not where they intended to be.
- His four snakes are named for the cardinal directions and, while they are technically part of him, they can move independently of and disconnect from his body entirely, as needed. Much like the rest of him, their breeds may appear differently to different people, though their coloration remains largely identical.
- His sclera are pale yellow, his irises are red, and his pupils are slits.
- Default expression is a mildly amused smile.
- Name means "I have asked of God." (A little on the nose? Maybe so...)
- Primary theme objects/etc. include snakes, mirrors, fog/mist, and distant sounds (especially that of ringing bells).
