dawnsky has had a lot of pressure put on her shoulders ever since she was an apprentice, and has always been doing her best to try and help her clan.

from early kithood, she has taken an interest in herbs and treating her clanmates, so the medicine cat of moonclan, haretail, started teaching her about treatments before even becoming an apprentice. the medicine cat taught her all they reasonably could, but intensive training would be too much for a kit so young. haretail died of old age shortly after dawnpaw became an apprentice, without even getting the chance to introduce her to the other medicine cats at the half-moon meeting.

both mossleaf of darkclan and ravenfeather of lightclan split the duties of teaching dawnpaw how to care for her clan. she formed a close bond with ravenfeather, who mentored her most, because her own apprentice was fully grown. dawnpaw was never particularily skilled in interpreting stars from starclan, nor was it ever much of a priority for her mentors. after all, her clan needed healing.

at some point, ravenfeather stopped showing up at all to help teach dawnpaw. at the half-moon meeting, her and mossleaf were informed by mooneyes, her apprentice, of ravenfeather's sudden death at the paws of a human. no details were ever given, which dawnpaw had found highly suspicious. that night she received her medicine cat name, dawnsky.

dawnsky was always a curious cat who loved sticking her nose where it didn't belong- after all, it's how she was chosen by haretail to become their apprentice. once her training was over, eavesdropping became her new favourite passtime. with no training to do, signs from starclan to interpret, herb sorting to do, or even cats injured, there was not much for a medicine cat to do.

so she learned about her clanmates. she learned of lionstar's warrior name and where it came from. she overheard owlstar of lightclan spending his nights with a cat who was not his mate. she witnessed some of dustfoot's many affairs, and subsequently chased him out of moonclan territory every time he walked in to bother a cat. she befriended a young darkclan apprentice and learned all about frog-catching, while talking about how the deaths in lightclan were too frequent. she snuck into lightclan and heard the elder stormheart talk of mooneyes hurting her, but the cat's chaotic speech did not offer many details. she allied herself with hazelbush, loudnose, and others of lightclan and darkclan, to defeat stonestar and his cruel medicine cat.

during a particularily harsh winter, she found a kit near moonclan's current camp, and took her in. she called the yound she-cat cherrykit, and asked her brother, eclipselight, to take her in as his daughter, since she knew the tom could not have kits of his own. she watched both cherrykit and eclipselight mature together, and couldn't be happier when cherrypaw asked to be mentored by dawnsky. by now, dawnsky had learnt that she will never be able to understand signs from starclan, so she asked her former mentor, mossleaf, to help cherrypaw with it.
