FRIENDLY • IDEALISTIC • KIND
In spite of a hard life, Dusty is about as sweet a person as you’re liable to meet. He is kind, even-tempered, and infectiously cheery- at times affectionately referred to as a “cock-eyed optimist”. He has a deep love for curiokind, and has maintained a somewhat hap-hazard oral history of the events he’s lived through, as well as a handful of less-accurate events he pieced together later. Social and outgoing, he has a habit of inviting himself to other people’s campfires- which he will make up for with songs and stories. His own campfires are, of course, open to any passing traveler, and he’s always happy to talk with or serenade whoever stops by.
Abandoned as a kit, Dusty grew up telling tales in the Wellstone Orphanage. After aging out of the system, he took to the long roads of Scatterstar as an eternal vagrant. The open wilds of Scatterstar have always been dangerous, but more so then- Dusty learned to peddle his songs and stories for whatever he could to get by. Sometime in his late twenties, a massive economic shift flooded the roadways with the desperate and disenfranchised, and survival became even harder. As something of a well-known wanderer by then, Dusty was one of a band of 'old guard' hobos who worked to pull together a community out of the fear and conflict, implementing a 'code' that many now consider the informal law of the homeless, jobless masses.
Things are no longer so dire. There are fewer wanderers these days- Dusty has outlasted the rest of the old guard by years now, never quite willing to give up the open road and fuzzy horizons. But this is a hard life for old bones, and slowly, he begins to think of his legacy.

Not very capable when it comes to hard labor anymore, Dusty arrives at the flattened Jun Nazu as a performer, attempting to keep morale high and provide some entertainment.

Dusty attends Pyre Fest in hopes of joining the performing lineup- even if in an inofficial capacity. With the festival being less than promised, Dusty ends up being a more prominent performer than anticipated, and assists with the stage setup, eventually encouraging Yucca to do a performance of her own.

Three Bones - The PR Department - Kindred
With Yucca conveniently removed from Tonpelli's blacklist, she and Dusty decide to attend the tech fair, followed by a walking tour of Tonpelli. Unable to speak Tonpellese, Yucca acts as Dusty's translator when necessary, and the two enjoy the displays and excitement of the Tech Fair. Dusty also has a conversation with a fellow old-timer, Yan, about family, and orphans.

As chaos descends on the Tech Fair, Yucca and Dusty make a hasty exit, Yucca carrying her old mentor to one of the outgoing ships- where she promptly leaves him, and returns to the fray. Knowing he'd be more a hinderance than a help, Dusty remains on the ship to offer the one thing he has: solace in the form of song. It's while he's singing that he is reunited with another former child of the road.

Despite being placed on a ship to the Mainland, Dusty remains on Tonpelli, joining the Bells in their travels, as he searches for Yucca. He hears stories, and knows she's alive, but always seems to be several steps behind her. In his travels, he also joins with Pith, as she experiences the people of Tonpelli and gains much needed perspective on the world, and her place in it.

A View of the Sunset - The Sardine Tent
In spite of the danger, and unwilling to sit out what might be the story of a lifetime, Dusty tags along with the expedition north, packing into a tent with Yucca and her friends at night. Yucca frets and worries, but Dusty ends up an often much-needed morale boost as the expedition wavers. Upon discovery of the bodies, Dusty wonders who they were, before they were an archeological find.

Eager to make friends among the Eisgar, Dusty is quick to trade stories and songs from Oldhome.
Special Someone, February
It's apparently Elksarok, a holiday for lovers. Dusty is no hunter, but Yucca brings him a gansey anyway, and a request- to go home, now that they've reached Sonderrime, and things seem to be getting more dangerous. Dusty refuses, but promises to be careful.
Sign of the Times, May 2022
It's a time of excitement, discovery, and research. No longer young enough to dig, and not literate enough to study, Dusty takes it upon himself to simply look after the young folk as they pass out in their studies and forget to eat lunch.
Yucca
[ The Daughter He Never Had ] Nearly ten years ago, Dusty took a young, runaway Yucca under his wing, and taught her how to live out in the open world. He and Yucca remain close today, he's proud of his girl and considers her something of a successor to his ideals.
Pothos
[ Family Friend, Unwitting Muse ] A friend of Pothos' parents, Dusty has watched them grow since childhood- in fact he has composed many silly songs and stories about his childhood exploits. Despite the significant age gap, both being storytellers, they get on surprisingly well.
