Profile

King Dys is one of the former Kings of Nightmares. His aspect is Chaos, and he was prior considered deceased after his public execution... but alas, he returned from death and is among the living once again. In Dys' prior life he was good friends with (at the time) Prince Sol. The two were good friends, and as one of the earliest sets of Princes, they existed in the harmony that came before Daydreams and Nightmares began to fight and separate from one another. At their coronation, however, when the Crowns were passed from the Kings to their heirs, the Kings' forms were destabilized by the Crowns, and they disappeared, thought to be dead. No one had known that the Crowns did this to their holders, as no one had passed the Crown before, and the Kingdoms and new Kings were devastated and cast into disarray by the loss. The Princes didn't yet know how to rule-- there was still more they needed to learn, that they thought they would have time to learn-- and the inhabitants of the Kingdoms and Royals alike mourned the loss of their founding rulers, and were harrowed by the realization of their own mortality.

When his friend Sol shut himself away from the world completely, Dys had no one. Dys was extremely close with the prior king, Nyx, the only one who treated him with the kind and patient understanding that he needed to feel cared for and understood. Few others had patience for him and his Chaos aspect, especially now that they were grieving, so Dys became isolated and started acting out more and more to get the attention he needed as a child who didn't know how else to process his grief and loneliness. Things spiraled quickly, and unknown to Dys his friend Sol was being turned against him by a corrupt interior agent to the castle-- his caretaker Resonance-- and rumors, misinformation, slander and the like ran amok. The Kingdoms became enemies, Sol's emotions were repressed by Resonance's meddling with his Eclipse State, turning him cold and indifferent. The two friends were enemies, Sol contrasting his perfect order with Dys' unruly chaos. It was obvious which the Kingdom needed then most. Dys' anxiety and restlessness grew, and his acts of spontaneous chaos did too, until one day, pushed to the brink by Sol, he lashed out and took their life. He was sentenced to execution for doing so-- but it was all ultimately to Sols' plan.

They both came back from death decades later, though Sol had been waiting for a good while for Dys to return. Dys was unstable and having spent so long in the dark senseless maze of the afterlife, he had forgotten himself-- so when he stumbled upon a human-- Daedalus Hephaestus-- manifesting a Nightmare-- he subconsciously attached himself to this human and filled in the role of manifesting his chaotic alter-ego Pseudonym. The two corrupted one another, becoming a villainous force greater than either of them was before. They had been drawn together due to the similarity off their souls, their pain and hurt resonating with one another and compounding into a massive dark energy. They were stopped, separated, and rehabilitated-- and now Dys lingers around Hephaestus due to feeling a connection with him. He and Sol have also since reconciled and are somewhat friendly with one another again.

Dys has calmed down significantly from his chaos-mongering days, though he's still very spontaneous and out-there. He likes to pull pranks and cause trouble, but now not in hurtful ways. He's content to not be a King, and ultimately feels much more suited to be a supporting role than a ruler, as he feels he was never really suited to leading in the first place. He takes a lot of solace in following the leadership of someone else, rather than making the decisions himself. He has a sarcastic sense of humor that is sometimes dark and sometimes spontaneous. His form often manifests in colorful, chaotic ways, and his colors are constantly shifting and changing. He is unpredictable still, but now more in a fun, well-humored way. He's a playful spirit who has, since losing his responsibility as King, regained the free spirit he lost when Nyx passed and the Crown was thrust upon him.
