Profile

Koko Guo

20 . they/them . shut-in

After two years of an aimless, unsatisfying college life, Koko drops out of college without telling their parents and uses the refunded money to rent a cheap apartment on the outskirts of town. Severely depressed with a nice helping of anxiety on the side, Koko spends most of their days gazing wistfully out the window, daydreaming, and wondering what to do with themself, only going outside for basic necessities such as food and toiletries.

Koko is a person stuck in the past, reliving their days growing up and going to the summer camp Turtle Rock and conversing with the friends they made there, who they has long fallen out of contact with. They are close to their little sister, Melody, and the two often exchange emails.

Childhood

(TO REWRITE) Koko grew up in a tense household where their parents didn't get along very well but stayed together because divorcing would be "shameful". Koko was told not to reveal their family problems to other people in order to upkeep this image. Because of this, they became very skilled at not talking much about themselves... and not talking much at all. In fact, they would often keep to themselves rather than socialize with the other kids. The only exception to this was their little sister Melody, who was the only other person who knew about their family "secret". Koko was often pressured to excel in school, which manifested anxiety into them as they constantly felt like they were not performing well enough.

Around 5th grade, Koko was sent to an overnight summer camp called Turtle Rock. There, they were approached by a kind group of people who quickly assimilated Koko into their friend group, much to the shock of Koko themself. Though Koko was as shy and quiet as ever, this group of friends easily accepted them for who they were. Koko found themselves enjoying the company of others for the first time and even opening up a little. A little outside of the perimeter of the group, there was a shy boy who was similarly an outcast. Feeling a sense of kinship, Koko became attached to them, with these feelings slowly manifesting into a crush.

Koko returned to Turtle Rock year after year, returning to the same friendly faces, but once the camp was over and the school year started, they would close up again. Dismissing themselves as simply "lucky" for being able to gain a group of friends, they were convinced there was no way for them to be able to gain another such welcoming group on their own. As they entered high school, they became too old to attend Turtle Rock and for the next four years, Koko found themselves returning to the lonely experiences of their childhood.
