About

Protective • boyish • Easygoing • flighty • restless • sensitive

Known by many simply as "The Hunter", Roscoe has done just that since the day he was born: hunt. Money, food, people - it's all the same, in the end. From a young street rat living alongside Cecil to an adult traversing a plague ridden dream in search for a cure to his own ailments, Roscoe seems to have a knack for avoiding death... or perhaps a knack for swinging a weapon with enough vigour at the creatures who might dare to come near. A rough adolescence following the deaths of his parents led to a near tunnel minded obsession with survival in the face of tribulations, so Yharnam proved an unfortunate honey trap for one so trauma ridden, trudging up old urges and mental modules in the name of survival. A lot of the hunt is a blur—too few successes, with losses in abundance. A sweet man, when left to his own devices. Cares about others more than he ought to and feels far too readily.

Summary / personality

Raised in the countryside by elderly adoptive parents, of which befell unknown illness during his late childhood; gathering their humble funds and travelling to Yharnam without their son in search of treatment, a trip due to take several days soon spanned to weeks, and Roscoe quickly found himself alone again, no longer capable of taking care of the home that was once theirs. The absence of guiding figures led him to city streets and rapidly into the unsavoury, simultaneously a violent, intemperate thing, yet one eager to protect those living a lifestyle not so dissimilar. That same looming illness would eventually come to plague him in adulthood just as it had his parents before him... and it isn't until he joins the hunt that puzzle pieces once thought to be missing finally click into place. Why they never returned—why the price of their treatment would come to cost them their lives.

With untreated PTSD as a result of childhood trauma (subsequently made worse by the horrors of Yharnam) what most people will know Roscoe as is merciless and irritable in the name of his own survival, though this couldn't be furthest from the traits that precede. In actuality, Roscoe is a sweetheart; a labrador of a man with more love in his heart than he knows what to do with, on top of a general lackadaisical approach to life that makes him easily approachable and just as easily befriended. He likes the simpler pleasures and, for any denseness, has a prominent desire to look after those around him, on top of a deeper desire to be loved just as tenderly in turn. He has something of a boyish charm about him, on top of a silly sense of humor paired with an eagerness to please, and appreciates the arts. Once longed to be a painter in his father's stead.

Design

• Roscoe has ashy blonde hair! It's not white, nor too yellow of a blonde... A "grey" is maybe more accurate. Eyes are a pale blue.

• Ponytail is mid length and worn high. Flyaway hairs that hang over the forehead are optional. Please don't draw his ponytail too long!

• Defining features include: freckles, beauty mark under his right eye, slight pointy canines.

• Stubble is all across the jaw, not just situated on the chin (he doesn't have a goatee)! Never allows his beard to grow out and is only drawn clean shaven when younger.

Trivia

• A Sag-Capricorn cusp.

• Never had a formal education by virtue of being raised by a lower class family in the 1800s; his reading and writing is somewhat lacking as a result, to his embarrassment.

• Well built, but soft around the middle.

• Adoptive. Never knew his birth parents, nor does he particularly care to.

• Undiagnosed ADHD and PTSD. The latter explains his temper during the events in game, manifesting as hyperarousal - uncharacteristic irritability and panic, on top of outbursts.

Sterling MacUchtraigh / Friend, Ex

A powder keg hailing from the Hunter's Nightmare. Sterling was a beacon and an ally in an otherwise bleak hellscape, with the two coming to know one another on an intimate level as they traversed the realm and fought as a duo. It was idyllic until it wasn't, and Roscoe's offer to together leave the Nightmare was taken poorly by one whose judgement had been clouded by his damnation. Their time together reached a crescendo in the murky Hamlet... and Roscoe was forced to put him out of his misery a second time. He misses Sterling; misses the man, misses what could have been, and misses meaningful touches without the intent to kill.

Cecil Darlington / Friend, Sister figure

After the passing of Roscoe's parents and the subsequent inability to keep the family home in his possession, the streets were soon to house a teenage Roscoe Reeves. It was there that he met Cecil; a fellow orphan, carrying burdens of her own, and soon to become one of Roscoe's closest friends. They were inseparable back then and remain inseparable to this day, joining the Hunt together when they befell the same illness (the very same that, unbeknownst to them, had taken Roscoe's parents long ago). He and Cecil are a horrible little duo akin to siblings, rife with giving one another shit and an overall air that suggests they're no strangers to making mischief.

Micolash / Partner, ???

... At least, in another time. The Host of the Nightmare is generally the opposite of Roscoe in every regard; detached from humanity, seeking to move beyond the self, and the sort to follow one's brain before their heart in the name of personal gain. Despite it... Roscoe feels a strange sense of rapport, very much abiding by the fabled opposites attract. Where Micolash once served as a frustrating barrier between the frontier and traversing the Hunt, Roscoe would come to regard him as a semi-broken man with no innate reference of normality, and later one he would want to instil that humanity within. Byrgenwerth and Yharnam left Micolash a broken thing, but so too did the same fate befall Roscoe, and the gradual healing process is one they feel out together. Has never hated Micolash—their canonical circumstance was unfortunate, with even his death serving as a necessary evil rather than a testament of his personal feelings, and in a better lifetime, Roscoe would gladly call him his. Strangely protective of Micolash and thinks he's a smart thing.

Hugo & Agatha Reeves / Adoptive parents

To a couple incapable of conceiving children of their own, Roscoe came as something of a blessing and was aptly treated as such over the years. His early childhood was idyllic: raised in the countryside with plenty of fresh air, on top of two parents who did their best to foster good values in their son in hopes of him living an easy life. Agatha was a former seamstress, stern yet loving in nature, with Hugh an even-tempered artist worn by the war, and together the facets of their personalities and interests would come to influence Roscoe's own. He thinks of the pair fondly, though for many years felt a sense of underlying betrayal at their untimely disappearance... at least until the reality of the situation settled in by sheer chance. It agonizes him to know that his parents underwent the same procedures as he, albeit with (literal) beastly consequences, adding a layer of personal grievances to a situation he already despised. Can only hope he's doing them proud, as he can attribute many of his successes to their love and teachings. Misses them more than he can say.
