he’s... an infp, unfortunately.
maeve is a librarian that‘s made a habit of daydreaming on the job. he has a tendency of... muttering and giggling to himself, and it doesn’t really go unnoticed. most library regulars have picked up on the fact that he’s a little... off, but he also also has the answers to their questions and can be a really helpful resource. he’s actually really well read and clever but the average rando might not pick up on it because he’s honestly kind of hard to engage with. he just... acts a little dodgy/shady and avoids eye contact when spoken to, usually fidgeting with his clothes and tugging at his hair.
he wants a boyfriend but thinks most (real) men are scum. he’s kinda one of those people that are like SINGLE PRIDE!! he had one steady boyfriend in like, highschool, got cheated on, and never looked back. he’s had a couple terrible one-night-stands and just sort of accepted he’d be disappointed by sex and romance outside of the realm of fantasy Forever.
he sort of simplifies the people he meets into tropes in his head. it’s completely unintentional, it’s sort of the result of his inexperience with relationships. he sees potential hookups as... fulfillment of a dream and then just ends up becoming disappointed by reality. he’s just... really out of touch, and he’s given up trying not to be. he really doesn’t like being reminded that real life is not a daydream. he’s terrified of the potential for pain, so instead he fantasizes about sexy monster men coming out of the woods to marry him.
turns out his grandfather was a fae noble that made a deal with the king of the elves to be allowed to permanently leave the fae realm - as long as he promised his descendant's return, he'd be allowed his freedom to do whatever the fuck he wants. maeve was essentially promised to the next elf prince as a bride. neither maeve or his father have any idea about this.
