Ghilana'din, or "Guide of the Dead," is what she is called by the Dalish. She has not used her real name in many a year.
An outcast by nature, she was cast from her clan at the age of 12. Now 21, she wanders from clan to clan to offer solace to the dead and dying, and to help ease suffering in those who do suffer. Fascinated with death and the afterlife, Ghilana'din studies the dead and wishes to find the secret to Uthenera again so Elves may rest easy and continue to dream forever in the afterlife. However, she has been unsuccessful in this task to date, and has only allowed elves to pass peacefully into death instead of into the sleep like death that Uthenera offers.
She wanders much like a ghost, and often startles people. Ghilana'din's eyes are sightless, though she can sense aura's of those who are living and connected to the Fade quite well, so she often doesn't bump into people. She still uses a cane to allow her to see inanimate objects, however. The fact she cannot see just adds to how eerie she is; it heightens her other senses and her connection to the Fade all the more. She can feel where it is thin and where it is strong, and when people slip into the Fade through dream or through death.
A necromancer by trade, and a spiritualist to boot, she uses her magic to summon the dead and experiment with death as well. When she is not dabbling with the art of death, Ghilana'din helps ease the suffering of the living. This ranges from tonics and potions to help ease pain or other ailments like hallucinations or fevers, down to offering a swift end to those who suffer. She also guides the dead to their final rest in the Fade, as well as their mortal bodies to where they shall sleep forever within the earth.
A Somniari, Ghilana'din spends a good deal of time in the Fade dreaming, and often is a target for demons. She does not fear them nor the Fade, for she can manipulate it, and is a powerful mage now. She does not hold back for she can see better in the Fade, ghostly figures of those who reside. Demons, Spirits, the Dead and the Living alike. It may have also attracted the attention of someone else, a wolf nipping at her heels...

Her real name is Soma Mahariel. She is my main Warden. She left Clan Sabre when she was 12 due to being an outcast for her fascination of death, and the demonic attention she attracted from the beyond the Veil because of being a Somniari. The Mirror incident never happened with her. She has been wandering from Clan to Clan ever since, and often sleeps in the woods, alone.
She finds and connects with Alistair while dreaming as he slips into the Fade while in the Tower of Ishal. His will to live interests her, and she continues to visit him in his dreams off-and-on, including facing the Sloth Demon inside of the Circle inside of Kinloch Hold. Shortly there-after, the pair meet in person and she joins his rag tag group of adventurers. Mahariel does not become a Warden until very late in the game; she partakes of the Joining when Riordan joins up during the Landsmeet. She does survive the Joining and becomes the third Warden in Ferelden along side him and Alistair.
Together, she and Alistair slay the Archdemon and both survive, thanks to a ritual performed the evening before by Morrigan. Alistair goes on to become the King of Ferelden while she becomes his Mistress. Oh, and (one of) the Commanders of the Grey. She doesn't fully hold the title, due to being blind and there being a lot of paperwork to fill out.
