Tessa is the daughter of Cybil Zephyrus, a Weather-Mage, and Tomen Vargas who couldn't use any magic. Her parents were the founders of a Guild named 'Diviner's Fane'. Over time more mages joined the guild, as well as Tessa realizing she can use magic and practiced it. When she was 12, she lost her Mother, and was taken care by her Father and Uncle - Alaric the Speed-Manipulation Mage (Who left a few years later).

When Tessa was 18, her parents' guild was over-run by dark mages from its ranks and its name was changed to 'Wyvern's Fang'. At some point Tessa witnessed a cooperation between them and demons from Tartaros and the Wyverns attempted killing her. Tessa had no choice but leave home, and upon travelling she met Himitsu - the Abyss Mage - and his Exceed Blaze, both from the Bahamut Dragoons Guild. After another risky encountr with the Wyverns, Himitsu and his friends saved Tessa and she decided to join their guild.
