Rookflight — Nonbinary (They/She/Fey) — Biromantic Asexual — Healer

Rookflight was born as an only kit to Mudblossom and Blackbird in Germaniumclan (fan clan). She got her brown pelt and eye colour from their mother, and their features (nose, ears, height) from their dad, notably the wing pattern on her back. Their denmates were Eaglekit and Rowankit (who were three months older), then Finchkit, Otterkit, and Harekit (who are about a month younger).

Mudblossom and Blackbird are very talented warriors. Mudblossom is a messenger with an excellent nose and the main teacher of sign language in Germaniumclan. An excellent cat with no room to play. She in charge of the messengers in the clan.

Blackbird had his moments as an apprentice, but quickly shaped up to be the best warrior. He became a lead warrior and asked to be deputy, but refused. Blackbird had plans on raising a family, and he thinks being a lead warrior is enough for him.

Kithood: Soooo many cats put Rookkit on a pedestal, and Fey were not a fan of it.  Since Rookkit had such amazing parents, they knew that so much potential. When she was two months old, Rookkit suffered a illness worse than greencough and was bedridden for weeks. Shadowthorn, the healer, gives them weekly checkups.

Rookkit was close to Eaglekit more than Rowankit, the older cats joked how they are bonded as friends forever because of their bird names. Many say they’ll be leader and deputy one day, Rookkit did not like that. She still had no idea what job she wanted (Warrior, Carpenter, Messenger, Healer, or Queen), it was all too much for her. She wanted time to think…

Apprentice: The graduation was cut short with Shadowthorn saying that Rookpaw will train to be a healer. Stunned, they blindly accept.

According to Shadowthorn, there was a sign that needs Rookpaw to train as a healer, however she did give them a choice of staying as a healer or changing positions. “You can train as a healer for a moon, which is needed for all cats” Shadowthorn states, “And let me know if you wish to stay as a healer”.

Needless to say, Rookpaw liked being a healer. All the other jobs were wishy-washy to them, but they liked being a healing other cats and Shadowthorn in general.

Eaglepaw was rather sad that she wasn’t training with him, but supports Rookpaw so much. Treepaw, silently supports them too. But boy, the rest of the apprentices (Cherrypaw, Harepaw, Finchpaw, Otterpaw, Rowanpaw) despised them. Cherrypaw had a crush on Eaglepaw, but he clearly had a liking to Rookpaw (and they had no clue). Cherrypaw resented her for that and because they were constantly praised n talked about.

Rookpaw befriends the other healers and Ivystorm from Lakeclan. Fey gets rather close to Lilypaw of Lakeclan, and finds her very sweet and pretty.

Shadowthorn receives signs of Rooks and Eagles flying a specific direction, then takes Rookpaw and Eaglepaw to the moonwoods. They then are given the omen off “When they all fall, the birds must fly north”

Unsure what that meant, everyone went their normal routine. Humans started coming into the forest because it was time to make a parking lot. This cause many other animals to grow anxious and attack clan cats. Beavers attacked Germaniumclan, with their death being Blackbird…

Germaniumstar tells Rookpaw about what’s going on with these humans, and hopes that her cats make it through this safely.

They do not.

Death keeps happening here and in other clans. Treepaw dies, Harepaw dies, Eaglepaw’s Mother dies, nothing is okay. Rookpaw cannot handle all the death and stays at Lakeclan for a little bit. Lilypaw comforts fem while Rookpaw tries to gain confidence again. While in Lakeclan, she gets closer to Ivystorm, Lilypaw becomes Lilyfield, and Rookpaw forms a crush on Lilyfield.

They leave when the crush grows stronger and nothing is better. Clans are in shambles with these darn humans. One day, Rookpaw went to try and visit Lilyfield, only to find her on her last seconds of life. A fox killed her, and there was nothing no one could do at that time.

The travelling arc: The clans come together and say that it’s time to decide what’s best for them. Rookpaw tells them that they need to travel, find a new home, but they all refuse it. The leaders decide that all the cats choose what they want to do.

Stay or leave.

If they stayed, the clans would ignore borders and be there for one another until the silly parking lot is done and over with. Leaving means they can go be loners, to a farm, be a kittypet, doesn’t matter. Whatever was safe for them. It was a lot to take in, but every cat understood.

Shadowthorn and many other healers stayed. She bid Rookpaw good luck on her travels north, and they left with Eaglepaw.

They are old enough to receive their full names, and the two made their own little graduation ceremony. Eaglepaw became Eagleflight, and Rookpaw simply kept her name. She didn’t want to change it just yet.

Travelling wasn’t too bad, they saw other cats who left and they were doing much better. Rookpaw had no idea where she was going, just north, and there will be a new home.

Eagleflight got sidetracked a lot. He suggests that maybe they can settle down as kittypets or in a farm, but Rookpaw refuses. Eagleflight drops hints that they can try and be mates and maybe raise a family, but fey never picked up the cues. Fey did, however, develop a liking to Eagleflight.

Deep into their travels, they find Cherrypaw (now Cherrystream), and Eagleflight is absolutely smitten. Cherrystream convinced him to stay in the forest with her, and Rookpaw is furious. They fought about the sign and how they have to travel together, and Eagleflight yells saying Rookpaw NEEDS to think about themselves. They only do what everyone tells them to do and refuses to fight back. They’re a complete pushover.

Then some bears come and kill Eagleflight. Cherrystream and Rookpaw are severely injured, and Rookpaw treats Cherry. Once healed, Cherrystream ALSO yells at them and says to get out of her sight.

Rookpaw wanted to give up. They rethink everything, and considers trying to travel back, or do something else. It’s a lot for them, and Rookpaw cannot take it anymore. She makes it near an ocean, then collapses due to exhaustion. Some cats found her and took them in.

Oceanclan: Rookpaw is taken into Oceanclan, where Clearwater the healer instantly takes them in to recover. Clearwater knew that she was coming for months now, and Rookpaw is finally here…

The sign went “Care for the Rook with the broken wing” and that was them. However, it was only to care for Rookpaw and not take her in.

When Rookpaw recovered, Clearwater told them that they can either stay or keep on travelling. Rookpaw, without any guidance from anyone, states that she wants to stay. All Rookpaw wanted was a home, any sort of home, and this was perfect for her. She continues training as a healer with Clearwater.

Ivystorm finds Oceanclan too, and she joins them and happy to find Rookpaw.

Full Healer: Two years passed and Rookpaw graduated!! Clearwater suggested Rookflight, and they happily accept it. They are doing so well in Oceanclan, and now at peace. Rookflight still has really bad dreams about their younger days, but accepts that this is normal.
