Their story

History:

    Remain good and kind...
Those were the last words that her mother had uttered to her. It has been a long time since then, but even though her ill mother had left her, Brynhildr remained strong and always did her best to uphold her mothers wishes. Nothing good came to the wicked, karma was always a factor and kindness was always appreciated. That's what the girl told herself. She said it over and over, even as her father let these awful people treat her like dirt.
Once the silver haired girl loved her family. She could recall the days when it would be just her, her mother and father spending the afternoon in the garden as they watched the world go by. She still loved her father, He was a kind man and taught her many things. But these new heathens in the form of her step mother and sisters were not in her favour. She didn't dare say she hated them. For if you are truly to be kind, what kind of a word is 'hate' to be used so lightly? That's what she had thought, anyway. Things weren't horrible at first. She would be made to do chores here and there, feed the livestock, water the gardens, clean the house. However everything kept piling up and the treatment became worse and worse. In her dirtied state, they even had the audacity to give her the nickname 'Cinderella'. However, it wasn't until Bryn's father had left on a trip that she realised how horrible her treatment was and it only became worse. They hated her... that could be the only conclusion.
Things continued this way for a while. Having asked her father for "the first branch that knocks your hat off" on his trip. He brought her just that. She planted this branch near her mothers grave. Every day Brynhildr would go to the grave, pray to her mother and she would cry. There was nothing else to do, and here she would find her only solace. Over time the branch grew into a grand chestnut tree, beautiful white birds began to visit her every day and bring her small gifts. It was something of a peaceful sanctuary, and from then on it would await for her daily return.

"Mother.. help me to be strong."

Things changed when there was word of a party being held in town. Now a young woman, 'Cinderella' had hoped to attend. However her step family reminded her that only the most beautiful and elegant of people could attend. Unfortunately she wasn't either of these things, she was simply an ash-covered and dirty housemaid. Her father never said a word about it, perhaps that may have been what hurt the most. Heartbroken and hurt, Cinderella retreated back to the forest, to the grave of her mother. The ground was ever watered with her tears, in this moment especially. This caused a spark of rebellion in the girl. No. She didn't want to be pushed around my them, not anymore. This is when she noticed that near the tree was a dress. She wouldn't call it extravagant, but it was perfect nonetheless, anything was better than the nothing that she had. She thanked the birds and upon getting ready, made her way into town for the first day of the party.
There, nobody recognised her. It was to be expected, each time she went into town it was only ever to pick up the groceries or run some silly little errand, and always, she looked like a dirty housemaid. But this evening was different. Tonight Cinderella had arrived for herself. That was fine and all, however it didn't end up that way. Throughout the night, she would find a few people in a bind and extend a kind hand, as was her nature. These people who genuinely needed her help were not rude and in fact thanked her for the help, something she was not used to. It was rather nice.. For the rest of the night Cinderella danced in the company of wonderful strangers, each with their own charm, she enjoyed herself and was genuinely happy for the first time in a long time.
Once her step family had left the house the next night, Cinderella left after them. Showing up in a more extravagant dress then the last. Her routine remained the same with helping out kind strangers and dancing. Perhaps this is what her mother had spoke of. Perhaps despite her suffering, remaining kind lead her to these wonderful evenings. At least that's what the young woman would like to believe... The third night Cinderella arrived at the party clad head to toe in gold, from the tiara in her hair to the slippers on her feet. A sight to behold, and now everyone recognised her as the kind young woman from before. Many asked her to dance, and dance, she did. One stranger in particular had caught her attention. A relatively tall man, with bright eyes and a charming smile. They danced, enjoyed each others company and eventually came to talk to one another as friends would. It was strange to Cinderella, nobody had tried to talk to her with such familiarity before. Sure everyone was kind, but this was different. It was nice and she very much welcomed the companionship. Cinderella left the party that night with a sense of loneliness, However there was happiness, perhaps even a bit of excitement.

The days after that continued as usual. Cinderella's step family would boss her around, force her to do chores. However as she left the house, an idea came to mind. The ash-haired young woman decided to venture out into the town. She recalled how friendly everyone was and it was a nice change from her usual treatment. Town was usually bustling, even when she was sent to get groceries. Along the way, she would obviously extend her helping hand to those who needed it. But it was always alright because those she helped always seemed to hold kindness. From then on, her visits to the town became frequent, and those she often interacted with began to recognise her. It was a wonderful feeling, there was nothing greater than the thank you and smile from someone who was grateful. However though she was happy and thankful for everyone's kindness, Cinderella still held a bit of hope. She wanted to see the young man from the party again.
During her next visit to the town, Cinderella stumbled upon an old weapons shop. Asked by a shop owner who knew her by name, she arrived to pick up a sword from the blacksmith there. However she didn't expect to be greeted by the blacksmith's assistant, a young woman with bright eyes and a charming smile. There was an instant sense of familiarity, not just from Cinderella, but it seems the other woman seemed to recognise her as well. It was a great reunion, and the two were ecstatic to see each other again. Still Cinderella had to leave to deliver the sword, but that didn't stop the pair from meeting up later that afternoon. They began to converse and it came as naturally as it did that night at the party.
Every day, after her chores were quickly done, with the help of a few white birds, Cinderella would escape her horrible home life in favour of the streets of town and her newly acquired companion. The two would spend their days bonding and running errands for the townsfolk, who quickly became accustomed to the pair's company. And when there was no work left to be done, Cinderella and her friend would always retreat to the blacksmith's shop to converse some more. Cinderella quickly grew fond of this young woman, they became inseparable within the first weeks they spent together. Day after day, the bright-eyed woman would tell Cinderella of many things; Like how invigorating life could be and how grateful she was to be here together, how she became so independent and stronger because of it. What more could she ask for? Cinderella was always happy to listen. Often, they would even pick up swords and attempt to spar. Though it was only a horrible imitation of what one would call a spar, Cinderella was far inferior to this woman. This was only one of many things that caused Cinderella to greatly admire this woman.

Things continued this way for almost a year, and what a lovely year it was. Cinderella found it in herself to endure the constant abuse at home, if only to see her friend and the town again. These are the things that kept her going. She was even lucky enough to keep her home and town life separated. At least that's what she had thought. Her stepmother had recently begun to catch on to her ventures, and after she caught Cinderella in the act of sneaking out, forbade her from leaving. This devastated the ash-haired woman. But her stepmother would have it no other way. So Cinderella was kept under constant surveillance, made only to complete chores, cook and clean. She hated it, How could this have happened? She wasn't even pitied enough to be allowed to visit her mother's grave. However, Cinderella still prayed every night from her dusty attic of a room. Perhaps someone would hear.
The next day, having been tasked with a delivery, the bright-eyed young woman found herself on the doorstep of the Kohler residence. However when she saw that it was Cinderella who had answered the door, she seemed shocked, but no less overjoyed to see her recently missing companion. Cinderella, however was not pleased with this reunion at all, for she was dressed in rags and covered in ash. This was embarrassing. The other woman was always beautiful and full of life, and Cinderella hoped to always meet when she was at her best. This was.. a disgrace. But, her friend didn't seem to mind in the slightest. Though seeing Cinderella's condition, it was clear that something was not right. It wasn't difficult to notice the fear in Cinderella's eyes when an older woman entered the room, nor was it particularly vague in the fact that the ash-haired young woman trembled when a hand was placed upon her shoulder. The older woman's friendly smile couldn't be anything else then an ugly mask, that's the only conclusion that could be made from this scene. Cinderella only bowed her head and let her step mother speak. If she said anything, she was sure to be punished with more chores or perhaps her portion of dinner would be taken away. The conversation was cut short and Cinderella was soon sent to her room, with her friend sent away.

A few day's went by until Cinderella could bring herself to go on. What had she done... She simply let her friend leave without saying a word, and what's more was seen like.. like this! She hated it, she hated this. Cinderella was tired of this treatment and tired of this fear that she held. The thought of seeing her bright-eyed friend had been enough to keep her going. That woman was so brave and strong, everything that Cinderella had ever wished that she could be. But even when it mattered, she couldn't bring herself to be so strong. Cinderella cried, she cried, asking her mother to forgive her for being weak, and if her friend could possibly hear, she apologised for not being brave enough to stand up against this...
That was Cinderella's breaking point, however. She had gone her whole life under the guise that this was her family now, that family should stay together. She was staying for her father, for the memories in this house. Though she endured everything for those memories. It came to her realisation that none of this was worth it. Her friend.. her beautiful bright-eyed companion had taught her that life was worth living, but not if she was to be holed up inside forever. She learned that there was so much more to life then being stuck in this house, than being hurt over and over again for a family that doesn't care about you. That was when Cinderella became brave. She grabbed what things she held dear and left her dusty attic room. Were she to stay in this house any longer, surely she would go mad with grief.
Her step family tried to stop her, of course. But no longer would she care about consequences, no longer did she care what they could do to her. As far as Cinderella was concerned, she wasn't a part of this family any more, she hadn't been for a long time. There was nothing left for her to care about, nothing left to hold dear. With great confidence Cinderella could say to their faces that she hated them, that she would never return and that she didn't deserve this treatment. With those words, Cinderella choked back tears and left the home that her family once lived in. The good memories could live on, but she didn't need too hold on to this place any longer.
Cinderella found herself without home, but she didn't mind. For the first time in years a weight had been lifted from her shoulders, she was free and nobody could ruin this feeling. It wasn't long until she saw a familiar face running toward her, worry stricken and tired. It was a bright eyed woman following behind a little white bird. Cinderella simply greeted them with a bright smile...

Cinderella became a trusted member of the community throughout the years. She always remained good and kind, was reliable and did her best to help those in need. Many people came to see her as trustworthy and strong. As Magari began to divide, Cinderella had grown the confidence to stand up for those she held dear, and before long she acquired the loyalty of many. Looking back on everything she had endured, Cinderella could thank her relationships, her experiences and trials that she eventually grew into the Don of Grimm.
