Background: April is a scientist from the year 2168 who works in the AFTTA (American Federal Time Travel Agency) as a researcher. She gets caught up in a company scandal after realizing the federation has started to grow corrupt, being taken over by a businessman who wants to use it for monetary gain, and is forced to flee using one of the company's time machines. She crash-lands the machine in the year 1749 on accident, keeping the federation from tracking her but also causing her to be stuck with no way back other than repairing her machine. She ends up in an unoccupied part of Connecticut, with a small village just a mile or so over the hills. She stays away from the village as long as she can, but when she inevitably runs out of supplies, she's forced to travel over the hills.
She successfully barters for supplies in town, wearing a heavy cloak and her replacement arm for disguise, but when she gets back to her time machine she realizes she's been followed— a young man with a missing right arm tailed her from the village, and sees both her and the machine. She panics and fires her blaster at him, but misses and the man runs away. April knows she's fucked— the guy ran off to tell the whole village, and now all of them would come marching up the hills holding torches and pitchforks.
She's surprised when she sees the guy return alone, wielding nothing but a broken glass bottle for a weapon. He seems drunk, and doesn't understand that her aiming her arm blaster at him is a threat. She fires the blaster at a tree to his right, turning it to ash, and clearly getting the message across that he shouldn't mess with the blaster. Instead of backing off like any rational person would, however, the guy throws his bottle at her, hitting her arm and temporarily disabling it. April instead punches him in the face with her other arm, knocking him out almost immediately. While he's down, she realizes his health is in abysmal shape and he's barely a step away from keeling over, so out of pity she takes some medicine from her ship and gives it to him, even though she knows she probably shouldn't.
When the guy (who, April finds out, is named Xavier) wakes up, he seems a lot more sober and gets into an argument with April. She eventually explains her situation to him, clearly confusing the fuck out of him in the process. She knows that him just seeing her would have messed with the space-time continuum, but when Xavier tells her that he followed her because he recognized her from somewhere, she begins to realize that something's amiss— she has never seen this guy before in her life.
April stays in the hills for a couple months to fix her machine, with Xavier sticking around because, as he claims, "the village would never miss [him]" (but mostly because April's medicine fixed his alcoholism and he can't hold his alcohol anymore.) He sometimes helps April with the heavy lifting on the machine, despite not knowing a thing about how the mechanics work. The two end up bonding, and become pretty good friends. After a while, though, Xavier begins to reveal how he lost his arm and what turned him to drinking, and April realizes that he recognized her because she‘s meant to be the one who saved him from bleeding out after his arm was cut off.
Physical description: April has curly dark brown hair, dark skin, and brown eyes. She is Afro-Latina, and about 5’7”. She is missing her right leg and part of her right arm, and her right eye is partially blind— she was heavily injured in a lab explosion, and her skin is covered in scars as a result. She wears prosthetics of the limbs she's lost, and has a special implant in her right eye to help her see, which causes that eye to be a lighter color than the other. Both her limb prosthetics are black with white casing, and blue lights embedded in them, and her arm has multiple weapons built into it, but she also has a realistic arm replacement for everyday wear (which is not armed). She does not have a realistic leg replacement. She usually wears blue clothing, a black-and-blue baseball hat, and a golden locket with a photo of her fiancé inside.
