☆ About

Faust is the original story about selling your soul. When he was barely a preteen, Faustus joined one of the most insidious gangs in Japan, Akuma-kai, promising them a debt of seven years of his life.

☆ Appearance

Faust is by far the palest member of Victory Disease- sometimes he looks white as a ghost. His hair is pitch black, parted to the right, and while it is pretty neat, sticks out in several places. He has dark brown eyes, bordering on black. Although he is the most physical boy in the gang, he doesn't look overwhelmingly strong. His muscles are very toned, so it's hard to tell just how forceful he is, when taking out demeanor. Faust's affect could be characterized as blunt, since he only ever looks angry or apathetic to everyone else. He rarely expresses positive emotions, and it is pretty hard to read him. Faust has hooded eyes, and prominent eyelids- this tends to make him look even more bored or uncaring. He has very angular features, such as a sharp nose and chin. Although Faust rarely ever smiles, his eyes crinkle and he has dimples when he does. Faust can't grow body or facial hair. He was too prissy to get any tattoos or piercings. He actually takes very good care of his appearance. His eyebrows are always perfectly maintained, and he keeps his hair relatively neat compared to when he was younger. It gets messy very easily.

His jacket is cardinal red, old gold, and white. The front patch is a book with a cross on it, and the back patch is a picture of a dog, with the name "Faust" above the circular picture. The area around the patch and his name has devil horns and a tail as the embellishment. Faust's preferred weapon, although he doesn't like using weapons much, are brass knuckles. Outside of gang attire, he prefers to dress in black. He is not exceedingly fashionable. Nearly all the shoes he owns are black boots- some knee-high, some steel-toed, all of them intimidating. He smells like sandalwood.

☆ Personality

Faust is incredibly stoic. On first meeting him, he always comes across as cold and ruthless. He talks very little, and is unusally blunt and to-the-point when he does speak. His only two readable moods are apathy and anger. He often gets violent, even if he's not mad, and is so to the point of being sadistic. He doesn't even really know why, but he really does love violence, and his upbringing did nothing to shatter this. He has great difficulty at expressing himself, and lacks normal communication skills. As a child, he was already reserved and relatively non-responsive, and he became more emotionally-unavailable as time and trauma wore on, resulting in his complete deadpan attitude. While it's an innate characteristic, he also does not allow himself to be happy. He is slightly superstitious, and due to the "stay, thou art so beautiful" moment in Faust, he believes it would end up being detrimental for him to be happy. He may or may not think that he is actually, truly going to Hell.

Faust's whole life has been modeled after him needing to be a "tough guy," and because of his line of work, he tries to seem as inhuman and perfect as possible. Because of how closed-off he is, Faust actually does find it very difficult to communicate with other people in a helpful manner. While he does actually have an large range of emotions underneath his cold front, he absolutely refuses to let anyone know about them in fear of being seen as "weak," or that they will have some kind of upper-hand if he does reveal anything. People often think that he's mean, or scary. Despite this, he does have a pretty avant-garde sense of humor. No one else really appreciates it, however.

Faust's hamartia is his ambition. To him, power is irresistable, and as a result, his moral code has fell by the wayside. Faust will do nearly anything to get what he wants- he's harsh, and has only really cared about attaining power, wealth, and fame. Faust needs to be in control, simply put. To him, situations were other people have been in charge are usually the least profitable, and he certainly believes in the addage "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself."

☆ History

When Faust was around six, both of his parents died in a train accident. Being their only child, his aunt and uncle adopted him, and raised him from there on out. Faust did well in school, but rarely talked to others. He was a delinquent for several years, up until he became a teenager. The only friends he had were other delinquents. Faust's friends were pretty nice to him, and despite their behavioural and criminal problems, they weren't too bad. Faust was just too unavailable to connect with them.

At the age of thirteen, Faust met a man in a black suit and a strange oni mask. The man, named Majin, made him an offer. If he worked for him for the next seven years, he'd help Faust achieve infamy and fortune through the yakuza. Until he was fifteen, he was pretty much an intern. Although he worked for Majin, no one considered him an actual member. After that, he dropped out of school- which upset him badly, and caused him to pursue his education by teaching himself- and joined full-time. From then on, things became worse for him. He was generally just used as a threat or to actually beat someone up, since he was very good at fighting. At some point, he did have to kill people, which he still has nightmares about. Most of the time, though, he had to watch Majin and other gangsters execute others. Eventually, most of Faust's old friends moved on to join the yakuza, too.

The worst trauma came when he caused harm to his Gretchen, however. Gretchen was one of his few friends in the yakuza. As Faust was following orders to injure a rival gangster, he accidentally died. Although Faust hadn't killed him, he was blamed for his death. Their boss was all set to chop off a few of his fingers when Gretchen interjected and took the fall for him. They took her instead, despite Faust crying and screaming, and he never saw her again. He stopped talking to any of his other friends. When Faust was around eighteen, he was partnered up with Sun Wukong, a member of the triad that was allied with his group. They were in a with-benefits scenario. After a year and a half, Sun left. By the time Faust hit twenty, he was a gashira. By then, his contract was up. He left the yakuza.

☆ Present Day

After leaving the yakuza, Faust decided on going to America. He found a relatively cheap, shitty apartment, and tried his best to turn over a new leaf and be a better person. Of course, having never made any money through legal means, he wasn't too well-adjusted for finding a normal job. He eventually resorts to crime once again, mainly stealing cars and sometimes selling contraband.

One night, he's solicited by Hamlet, who was at the time homeless. He takes him in for the night, which subsequently devolves into Hamlet moving in. Together, they form Victory Disease. At some point after they'd been living together for a while, they enter a casual relationship. This becomes unhealthy when Faust realizes Hamlet is continuing to see other people, feeling as though he doesn't matter to Hamlet. He develops a tendency to come to blows with him, with Hamlet not returning fire.

One night, when the two are driving along, they nearly run over a boy with magenta hair. They do their best to help him, as he seems to have no memory of who he is. They later induct him as Oedipus Rex. The three of them spend a few months together, until Oedipus leaves with Orestes. Hamlet later leaves to confront his step-father in England, and when he returns, his inheritance is bestowed back on him. The two of them and Icarus move into Hamlet's family penthouse. Faust is very strained from that point on, extremely upset with everyone around him, and takes out most of his anger on Hamlet and Icarus.

☆ Relationships

HAMLET [ relationship ]Hamlet and Faust have a very complex relationship- since Hamlet moved in, they've developed feelings for one another, but due to Hamlet's lack of awareness of Faust's feelings and Faust's inability to communicate said feelings, they'd become pretty toxic. Faust has never really had feelings for anyone before Hamlet, and is very jealous of other people he sleeps with, wishing Hamlet would commit to him. Faust views Hamlet as "his." Aside from the romantic feelings, they are extremely close friends, often bantering with each other. They genuinely enjoy being around each other, despite the difficulties.
OEDIPUS [ relationship ]Oed, being the nervous wreck he is, was kind of scared around Faust at first. Faust thought he was just another mouth to feed, a burden, but given that Oed is pretty obedient, he warms up to him. He even starts to feel relatively protective of Oed, and can't really insult him the way he does others. He thinks that Oed is a sweet boy deep down, but has trouble admitting this.
ICARUS [ relationship ]Icarus and Faust get off to a rocky start. He's mad at him, the way he's mad at everyone that Hamlet sleeps around with, but he is attracted to him somewhat, due to him being a sub. They have a tough time after Icarus overdoses and when Faust is the one taking care of him- Icarus is stubborn, and Faust takes a lot of his misplaced anger out on him.
GRETCHEN [ relationship ]Gretchen was, possibly, the closest thing to a family Faust had. She was the only person who was really allowed to criticize Faust, and the only person in the yakuza not really afraid of him at all. She would often chew him out and talk sense into him, in a tough love manner. She was the only person that Faust really cared about when he was younger. Since they were both children thrust into the world of organized crime, they were drawn to each other naturally.
SUN WUKONG [ relationship ]Sun was both Faust's old partner and a fling. While Sun did develop real feelings for him, Faust only saw him as a (kind of annoying) friend and coworker who he'd have sex with when they both wanted to. Despite this, he did feel lonely when Sun returned to China. Sun Wukong had been his only friend since Gretchen had been gone.
MAJIN [ relationship ]Majin is Faust's biggest fear. Faust was kind of okay with him while in the yakuza- it could've even been said he respected him- but he started to detest him more and more as Majin groomed him, and as he was exposed to criminality by him and forced to kill others. After he finally leaves, he develops an actual fear of him- being out, he realizes the amount of trauma he was caused at his hands, and how he was basically a grown man manipulating a child.

☆ Trivia

ℑ He holds himself to a very high standard. His father started teaching him English before he died, and he continued to learn it throughout his childhood, by himself- he is very skilled at learning languages. (He also knows a good amount of German, Chinese, and even Korean.) Even after he dropped out of school, he tried to keep learning things outside of it. As a result, he is very educated, but has a few gaps in his knowledge. He usually comes across as the most formally educated in Victory Disease, despite that being untrue.

â„‘ Faust grew up in Osaka, and as a result, had a very strong Kansai accent growing up, and he also spoke very rudely. He got rid of it later on, since he considered it embarrassing and thuggish. Since he puts a ton of pressure on himself to look proper and learned it at a young age, his accent when he speaks English is rarely noticeable, and often faint. When he loses his composure, however, it gets very thick. He's super embarrassed whenever he mispronounces a word.

â„‘ As a gray-ace, he doesn't lack sexual attraction, he just very rarely is attracted to any certain person. His libido is pretty typical, but he only gets turned on by certain scenarios or actions- which is BDSM. He's sadistic, and due to his need for power, he nearly always wants to be in control. He likes humiliation people and making them beg. He also has the potential for romantic attraction, but has not experienced it yet. That being said, all of this only applies to men.

â„‘ He has complex post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, specific phobia, and a blunted affect. He might have been considered to have a conduct disorder as a teen.

â„‘ Faust is very nationalistic, so many of his friends were shocked that his alias didn't come from any Japanese canon. He's actually a quarter German, though, and chose his name because he wanted to look educated and cool.

ℑ He founded Victory Disease. The name comes from the word "senshoubyou," which Faust thought sounded cool in English. Although varsity jackets are primarily America's form of gang attire, they've spread to Japan in the form of some gangsters wearing sukajan jackets. So Faust decided to embroider all of the Victory Disease jackets himself.

â„‘ He adores dogs and has a German Shepherd named Mephistopheles. He's had him since he was seventeen, and Faust loves him to death. Despite being super stoic, he will always lean down to pet a dog and say "who's a good boy?" in a baby voice when he's alone.

â„‘ Faust practices Shintoism.

â„‘ He's terrified of noh masks, and isn't a fan of oni. This is because of Majin. Ironically, he wanted to be an actor as a child.

ℑ He HATES most anime. There are a few exceptions to this, such as Speed Racer, Akira, and Osomatsu-kun. Faust really enjoys film instead, especially yakuza movies, and he doesn't care how inaccurate they might be. He loves violent films, like Ichi the Killer and Battle Royale, but his favorite is Oldboy.

ℑ Faust's strange sense of humor is something that usually goes unnoticed. While he and Hamlet seem to banter like a manzai duo, with Faust as the tsukkomi, he's actually quite funny himself, although no one usually gets it. Hamlet has a collection of funny things he has said on his phone, which range from his hatred of the Cat in the Hat, or weird stuff about sin, Hell, and the Devil.
