Take a walk along downtown Honolulu’s coastline and you might find a curious young woman lurking beneath the waves. Sue lacks the relative aggressiveness one needs to survive in mer society. Poor eyesight and a meekish personality make pelagic life difficult, so she clings to the Oʻahu coasts where few other mer bother to venture. Without the danger of being hunted, she can devote herself to other things like peoplewatching or the dying mer art of song.
