His inability to control his desire to take what he wanted, regardless of consequence, led him to a ‘career’ as a highwayman. As his infamy spreads, he finds himself with a small party of likeminded thieves- his first real ‘friends’. Together they encounter an occult deity.

In exchange for twisted magical powers, they agree to start stealing items with sentimental value (rather than just items with monetary value alone) as offerings to the dark god. Bec uses their ill-gained fortune and powers to procure a ship and begin terrorizing the coast as pirate-cultists.
