Nelson Midas Smith

Nelson, an enigma of a character. Growing up in Detroit, he befriended and then apprenticed under a back alley doctor, looking to make any ends meet. The good doctor became like a surrogate father to him, and taught him well the things he had learned, so Nelson could thrive and help in the harsh world that which he lived in. It was during that time he met Oliver, his past high school rival, and quickly fell into a romance and eventually married. They both adopted a little girl named Cassandra, and their lives were happy.

Many years passed, and Cassandra grew up, her fathers helping her realize her passions and academic dreams. But when she was 25, Cassandra disappeared as if she simply walked out of her home and their lives one day. Nelson was familiar with his daughter and her habits, and came to a conclusion, sure it was a kidnapping. He spent the next ten years of his life looking for his daughter, leaving behind his position as a respected doctor to use his myriad of talents towards becoming a detective. It was all for naught though, as Cassandra simply seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth. His husband, filled with grief from the loss and nigh inconsolable in the years following, eventually killed himself. Nelson never quite recovered from the event, but the knowledge of his daughters life somewhere out there was always enough to keep him away from the brink of the despair that so gripped his dear Oliver.

Near the anniversary of Cassandra's disappearance, he received a letter from a good friend of his from one of the cases he worked, telling Nelson that he was aware of Cassandra and that he might have discovered a lead towards her disappearance, sending Nelson a plane ticket and location in order to find him.

But the location only led to a decrepit warehouse, where Nelson met with 3 other people, all seemingly led to this one place for various reasons. A man was waiting, aware of what all 4 of them were seeking, including Cassandra’s disappearance, but before information could be exchanged, they were ambushed by Corporate goons. Nelson and two of his compatriots, the third succumbing to the sleeping gas that was thrown at them, escaped the warehouse and made for the sewers, performing a valiant last stand before being knocked out and kidnapped themselves.

Nelson, his 3 fellows, and 8 others all woke up on an auto-piloted ship, run by automatons that were lifelike enough to be mistaken for people. Some had come there for legitimate business reasons, while Nelson and more were simply kidnapped. Whatever the reason they were brought there, it was sure of a nefarious nature. Nelson discovered a letter personally addressed to him, taunting him with the answers to what happened to his daughter, should he continue to investigate what was going on.

The group discovered that their destination was to a location that could take them into space, and unable to stop the autopilot in time, they were once again drugged into sleep and summarily transported onto a space station.

There, Nelson was pitted against the clock, and his newly acquired fellows, into three teams of four. It would take all his wits and skills in order to discover what happened to his daughter, and who was responsible for all of this….
