Xiwang is known for her mischievous, energetic, yet kind nature. Some even believed that because of the similarities in personality she harnessed the soul of Wei Wuxian. She is trained from early age to become a rebel, managing her time between martial arts and demonic cultivation. She is mostly a big troublemaker and likes to trick and mess with people to satisfy her need for entertainment. Because of her attire and attitude almost everyone has mistaken her to be a boy, but she never minded and even used it to her own advantage. The only one that currently knows her as her more girly side is Jin Ling. She has never learned how to read or write, and doesn't show good mannerism. Only after becoming friends with Jin Ling and being taken in by the Lanling Jin Sect aswell as training under Jiang Cheng does she slowly learn these things. But even when having to dress more as a girl she usually runs away.

Appearance

26322684_j7lXt4DZcZpqRVR.png?1599603446Xiwang is known to look alot like her mother, inheriting her blue eyes and long slightly wavy black hair. She mostly wears black and red robes almost similar to Wei Wuxian's attire, and ties her hair into a ponytail with a long white ribbon given by her mother. She is usually covered in dirt for living on the streets and only takes more care of her appearance after being taken in by the Lanling Jin Sect. After her training ended in Lotus Cove, she also starts wearing a lotus bell around her waist given by Jiang Cheng.

History

Before Xiwang was born her mother Xuan Lu had sought out Wei Wuxian at the Burial Mounds when hearing about his activities during the Sunshot Campaign, and his mercy towards the Wen clan. She admired him and only wished to help him with protecting the Wen remnants, knowing that they only consisted of elders and children. She admitted to having gained feelings for Wei Wuxian, but he never returned them. However, it barely mattered for her and only wished to serve. While living in the Burial Mounds Xuan Lu managed to experience and research demonic cultivation by just studying Wei Wuxian. She knew that it would come in handy at some point, but as it was already taboo to use it she could only truly go by what she saw. While trying to harnes this power for herself to help out Wei Wuxian, she was never able to.

A month before Wei Wuxian left the Burial Mounds to go to Jin Ling's birth celebration, Xuan Lu already left the Burial Mounds to find another way to harnes the dark arts in order to then return stronger to protect the Wen clan. During this time she had a short relationship with Fu Wen who ended up becoming the father of Xiwang. Only a month or two after the first siege of the Burial Mounds did she hear about the massacre of the Wen clan remnants along with the death of Wei Wuxian. This left her with alot of hatred towards all clans.

When Xiwang was born, Xuan Lu already made it her duty to raise her daughter as a rebel against the clans. She pressured her to training as soon as she was able to walk, and made their way to the Burial Mounds unnoticed to try and use the negative energy as a way to gain the power of demonic cultivation. While it took many long days and nights for the child to understand and recieve this gift, she did end up harnessing it with trouble.

Throughout the few years that she was with her mother, Xiwang heard many stories about Wei Wuxian and how Xuan Lu talked highly of him. This left her with her own admiration towards the Yiling Patriarch and being this young she was very impressionable, thinking him to be a savior.

After her sixth birthday, Xiwang was left to fend for herself when the clan leaders found her and her mother, ending in the killing of Xuan Lu for practising and teaching demonic cultivation. Xiwang managed to escape the grasp of the clan leaders by her mother's sacrifice. She tried finding her father by the few hints she recieved from her mother, but ended up finding out he died a year earlier.

Xiwang has became a real rebel, seeking trouble wherever she goes, but always manages to barely escape capture. Her sly and mischievous nature keeps her always one step ahead.

Story

Throughout her years on her own, fending for herself and just mainly trying to survive, she crosses paths with Jin Ling alot, and more often than any other cultivator trying to capture her. From early age they've been pinned against eachother as enemies and rivals by the ambitions of their family, and have been acting as such for the majority of their childhood. However, during another one of their encounters, they also come across an evil spirit that was just a little too much for them both to handle, which resulted in both of them with injuries. Xiwang became heavily wounded on her right arm, while Jin Ling was struck in his side and leg. Unable to move quickly, Xiwang takes Jin Ling to a nearby cave where they stayed for a couple of days. She managed to treat Jin Ling's wounds and wrap it tight with her already teared up sleeve, aswell as cover him with her outer robe to keep him warm and keep them both fed with her survival skills. Throughout these awkward days, two supposed enemies sharing a cave, they eventually started talking to eachother in a not so hostile manner. Jin Ling ended up finding out more about who Xiwang actually was as a person, aswell as the fact that she was actually a girl. He could finally understand her struggles all these years as they were both orphans. But while he had his uncles that took care of him, she had nobody. Xiwang already knew much about Jin Ling. In fact, she never truly wanted them to be enemies and never hated him for trying to capture her. She knew Jin Ling had something to prove, but even with all her teasing and mischievous behaviour towards him, all she wanted was a friend. Having a better understanding about eachother they ended up slowly becoming friends.

During another encounter with Jin Ling and acting more friendly towards eachother, Jiang Cheng had been watching from afar. When being confronted by the elder man, Jin Ling tried to shield Xiwang from his uncle, but Jiang Cheng still managed to capture her. She was locked and tied up in a chair back in Lotus Cove where Jiang Cheng began to question her about her Demonic Cultivation, her knowledge about Wei Wuxian, and why she and Jin Ling acted familiar around eachother, but she never said a word, knowing that nothing she would say could satisfy his curiosity. This however resulted in him whipping her with Zidian out of frustration. As night settled and Jiang Cheng made his way to his own room to ponder on his next choice of action, Jin Ling managed to sneak into her room, cut her loose, and treated her wounds with the medicine he brought for her. The wounds weren't severe or deadly, but it would still leave some scars that would last for the rest of her life. After treatment, Jin Ling tells her to escape while he forms a distraction, but Xiwang didn't want to move. She just ended up crying, and didn't want him to get into trouble because of her. Jin Ling could only comfort her.

When Jin Ling returned with some water to cool her off, Xiwang already left Lotus Cove with the bottle of medicine.

During one of her night strolls around a village she encounters Fairy all on it's own. Thinking that something might've happened to Jin Ling, she uses a demonic tracking spell that she follows all the way to the Burial Mounds. There she crosses paths with Jiang Cheng and the other senior cultivators trying to find their juniors. Jiang Cheng ends up suspecting she had something to do with their juniors disappearing, but Xiwang made it clear that they couldn't bicker on the matter now when time is running short. She entered Burial Mounds first before finally being followed by the others. She managed to find Jin Ling in the Demon-Slaughtering Cave unharmed and didn't think twice to hug him, almost crying, aswell as meet with Wei Wuxian for the first time before the seniors arrived. During their battle against the second wave of corpses, Xiwang helped out the other juniors in protecting the seniors. When preparing boats to leave for Lotus Cove, Xiwang ended up comforting Jin Ling when being irate by Wen Ning's presence.

Throughout the ride to Lotus Cove, Jiang Cheng still didn't trust Xiwang despite her genuine care for Jin Ling, and made her stay in the boat of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji. She didn't mind however as she was finally able to talk to Wei Wuxian, the person that she and her mother dedicated their lives to. She wasn't at all disappointed in him and they found common interests very quickly when teasing Lan Wangji almost the whole time throughout the ride. She stayed for only a short period of time in Lotus Cove, just making sure Jin Ling arrived safely, before disappearing when Jiang Cheng wasn't looking.

When Jin Ling became the new sect leader of the Lanling Jin sect, he took Xiwang in and gave her a place to stay, treating her like family. Jiang Cheng wasn't at all pleased by his desicion as he still thought her to be a threat to his nephew, but decided not to interfere as much as he had been. However, nobody but Jin Ling ever dared come close to her, knowing that she still studied Demonic Cultivation, and memories of the past were still fresh in people's minds. Their worries became more clear when black smoke started flowing out of Xiwang's body one night, and she wasn't able to fully control herself. In the hopes of knowing what was happening, Jin Ling asks Jiang Cheng to examine her, but the only person who could really help her was Wei Wuxian. Jin Ling pleaded for his uncle to take her to the Yiling Patriarch, and with much contemplation he couldn't refuse his nephew.

A little displeased, Jiang Cheng brought a struggling Xiwang on his back all the way to Cloud Recess. Wei Wuxian managed to stop the black smoke from leaking out of her body, but warned her that going too far with her Demonic Cultivation might give bad results. On their way back to Carp Tower, Xiwang and Jiang Cheng ended up finally talking to eachother, however the elder more in a scolding way. She knew now that Demonic Cultivation could become her end if she wasn't careful, or she might end up hurting Jin Ling, and almost hesitantly asked Jiang Cheng to help her control it. For the sake of keeping Jin Ling safe she would do whatever it took, even asking one of her biggest enemies for help. Jiang Cheng felt strange and a little uncomfortable by the question at first, and contemplated alot throughout their journey back, however he agreed to the idea only for Jin Ling.

Back in Carp Tower she tells Jin Ling about her desicion and while it made him unhappy to see her go again so soon, he could understand. As a goodbye gift he gave her a hairpin, knowing that her 15th birthday wasn't too far away, and she would treasure it, promising that she would return as soon as her training ended.

Her training in Lotus Cove didn't start out very smooth. Jiang Cheng was still pretty harsh towards her despite her trying every bit to get closer to him. However, slowly but surely he ended up seeing the charm in her that Jin Ling had seen in her long before. She helped him cope whenever days became hard and despite his sometimes more aggressive attitudes and temper tantrums, she stayed by him without fear. Throughout her time in Lotus Cove, she tried everything to ease his aching heart, and while she doesn't realize this herself, Jiang Cheng became content with her presence.

Around two years have passed before Xiwang returns back to Carp Tower and reunite with Jin Ling, full in control and with a lotus bell hanging from her waist.

Trivia

• While practising demonic cultivation, she doesn't seem to show the ability to control dead bodies simply by the fact that she doesn't like the dead to do her bidding.
• She's still traumatized from watching her mother sacrifice herself and get killed right infront of her just so she could escape.

• Having only eaten bread, rice, or apples all her life, she now overly enjoys all kinds of rich food and has gotten quite used to the tastes offered by the Langling Jin Sect.

Jin Ling

Xiwang and Jin Ling were originally enemies, with the latter hunting her down in order to capture and retrieve her to his uncle Jiang Cheng to appease him and impress him. They encounter eachother many times throughout their life, but Xiwang always managed to escape him with her trickery. However, one day they had to work together if they wanted to survive to which they both saved eachother's lives. They stayed together for atleast a couple of days to take care of their wounds, which eventually led them to talk to eachother in a more friendly manner. This is also when Jin Ling realized Xiwang to be a girl, much to his surprise. With the slowly growing friendship, they started to respect eachother more for who they are, and understand the struggles of both being orphans and having no friends. When Jiang Cheng ends up catching Xiwang, Jin Ling protected and vouched for her, even treating her wounds and give her an escape route when she got captured. When becoming the new sect leader, Jin Ling takes her in and treats her as family.
• Xiwang always calls him Jin Rulan just to tease him, however he ended up enjoying and accepting it.
• Jin Ling tries to convince Xiwang atleast a few times over the course of their friendship that she looks cuter if she dressed like a girl, making her flustered.

Jiang Cheng

Xiwang and Jiang Cheng weren't friendly towards eachother. She blamed him along with the other clan leaders for her mother's death, and he takes her practise of the dark arts as taboo all the while thinking she harnessed the soul of Wei Wuxian. For years he has been trying to capture her, but she was always just one step ahead. Only when her having formed a friendship with Jin Ling was he able to capture her so easily. However, when finally getting the chance for some answers from her she wouldn't speak, which only frustrated him more. He felt uncomfortable about the evergrowing friendship of the two younglings and was afraid that Xiwang could become Jin Ling's demise, remembering the past very well. But he couldn't deny the fact that they both ended up caring deeply for eachother. Even after taking her as his pupil, he still felt uncomfortable with the situation, however slowly but surely he could finally understand what Jin Ling saw in her.

Wei Wuxian

Xiwang and Wei Wuxian are very similar, which made it very easy for them to be familiar. They seem to be the perfect partners in crime who could laugh at eachother's mischievousness, but also appreciate eachother's kindness. Before his resurrection Xiwang really looked up to him from the stories she heard. She wouldn't believe the acts he did at Nightless City and wished to someday find the truth about what happened.
