Overview
Son of esteemed military general James McClery, Ryan vowed to follow in his fathers footsteps and get revenge after his untimely death when Ryan was a teen. Having enlisted at the age of 18, Ryan is now an expert in his field, honing his skills over the years in combat and espionage. Ryans time in the military was tough, leaving him hardened and very emotionally closed off from most people. Despite everything the job put him through, stubborn as ever, Ryan would never give up, rapidly climbing the ranks like his father before him. After uncovering a conspiracy that his father was a victim of among the higher ups in the military, Ryan left to form his own private unit, building up his forces in order to take down the man responsible for his fathers demise.
Despite his dedication to his cause, there is one thing he'll always care more about than any war: his lifelong partner, Nichòlas. Nick is the most important thing in the world to Ryan, he finds him truly mesmerising, there isn't a single day that goes by where he doesn't think about how lucky he is. Everything he does, in some way, he's doing it for him. He believes the world can and should be a better place, because Nick showed him it could be. For Ryan, Nick personifies everything he's fighting for.

Ryan has a very stoic exterior, generally masking his true feelings and overall appearing very brooding. He also has ADHD, though its now medicated, its impacted him greatly throughout his life, particularly in his younger years, and still effects him in many aspects of his life.
Ryan often comes across as blunt, and has a very sarcastic, dry sense of humour. Coupled with his impulsiveness, he can come across as a bit unintentionally rude at first, his mouth works faster than his brain, he's not afraid to speak his mind, for better or for worse.Despite how he can come across at first, when you get to know him, he's one of the most loving people you could find. He cares deeply for others and truly wants the best for everyone, even if he's often hesitant to show it.
Ryan's very protective of those that he loves and would do anything to help them. His affectionate side shows most with his husband, Nichòlas, who he never hesitates to shower in non-stop affection, both verbal and physical, he loves him with all his heart and wants everyone else to know it. Nick brings out the best in him, and is the only one that knows how to tame Ryan's wilder side.
When it comes to physical touch however, Nick is the exception to the rule, he generally values his own personal space and isn't super touchy with most people, especially after receiving his injuries: no one other than Nick is allowed anywhere near his face

Design notes
- Has two large scars on his face, one going over the bridge of his nose and one going over his eye, alongside a much smaller scar going over his lip, and several around his face.
- Has a bump on the bridge of his nose (Not caused by his injuries, has it in his younger design as well)
- Has a full beard + thick, messy eyebrows.
- Though not visible on his present self due to his beard, he has a cleft chin

Ryans early years were challenging, he struggled greatly during his teen years mostly due to his ADHD, as not only was it severe, but he received very little support for it, often just being dismissed as a problem child by his teachers. Despite his issues in school, Ryan's home life was pretty positive. Ryan had always been incredibly close with his father James especially, the two had a very tight bond, Ryan knew that his dad would always have his back and be there for him, no matter what. His dad was the only one to stick up for Ryan when the other adults in his life were giving him trouble, James' #1 priority was Ryan's happiness.
Ryan always struggled with making friends, people always found him to be a bit odd, coupled with his reputation given to him by his teachers, most people either avoided him, or made fun of him. Most people he did get along with, he was never particularly close to, all of his friendships were very surface level. He made his first true friend when a new boy transferred to their school, Nichòlas. Nick, having moved from Italy, knew no one, and struggled to fit in as he was treated like an outsider by most. For Ryan, the second he laid eyes on him, it was love at first sight. There was something about him that couldn't help but draw Ryan in. He was determined to become his friend, at the very least. Though it took a while, particularly as Nick was quite shy, they slowly became closer over time, becoming best friends by the end of the year. Things didn't stop there, though. As they got closer, and as both discovered more about themselves, things started to change. Something was blossoming between them. Something special. They could both feel it. It would only be a matter of time before one of them would take the next step.
Act 2
- Ryan has to face his toughest enemy yet: himself
- Struggling with PTSD, Ryan finds great difficulty in accepting everything that's happened to him throughout his life
- His rapidly declining mental health takes a heavy toll on his relationships with others
After being severely injured in an incident during his time in the military, Ryan was left with several permanent injuries, the most prominent of which being the scars across his face. Ryan struggled greatly to accept the fact that his face had been permanently altered, no matter how much time passed those scars would never fully fade away. This, coupled with PTSD from the event itself, caused Ryan to withdraw from the world, becoming severely depressed and hesitant to leave his home. He internalised his pain, coping with it in extremely unhealthy and self destructive ways. This sudden shift in his personality and behaviour put a massive strain on his relationship with Nick, causing them to constantly argue. Fearing the impact that kind of environment would have on their 2 young children, Nick decided it was best for them to go on a break, and separate from each other for a while. Though Nick never intended for it to be permanent, Ryan took it as a break up, and took it hard. He deteriorated even further, wallowing in his pain and spending most of his days drunk, occasionally showing up at Nicks door to desperately beg him for another chance.
During this period of his life, Ryan spent the majority of his time feeling numb. He found it difficult to bring himself to care about anything, be that his interests, relationships with others, his looks. He spends most of his time just laying around, alive but barely living. Despite his struggles due to his mental health, deep down is the same Ryan that was always there, and every so often that lighter side of him does come through, especially during the few times that he sees nick.
Despite how much time has passed since they first laid eyes on each other, Ryan still gets butterflies every time his husband looks him in the eye. Ryan never left the honeymoon phase, he loves Nick to death and would do anything and everything for his happiness.
Nick is the only person he truly trusts and feels like he can be himself around, they've been through so much together, seen the best and worst the other has to offer, and they've only ever come out of it stronger than before. Ryan feels like the luckiest man alive.
