Growing up on a small farm in South Dakota, Mika was an only child. Parents often away for work and holidays, she was left alone majority of her childhood other than her cat Cece that her parents gave her for company. Mika excelled in school, keeping her grades at the highest possible. She began visiting the school library frequently after classes ended, checking out new books to bring home sometimes reading there for awhile before walking home. She had a hard time making friends due to being quiet which is all she’d known. Reading was her escape, the one thing she enjoyed more than anything. She lived in fantasies as she turned each page.

As Mika got older, not much changed. Once hitting 16 she got a part time job at a cafe only a two minute walk from her school. As she was saving money to move out she also began researching different colleges and scholarships. With her outstanding 4.5 gpa, at the age of 17 Mika got a full ride to NYU. As excited as she was her parents didn’t seem to care, they shrugged it off but Mika didn’t let it affect her. She wanted to become an author, she finished off her last year of high school strong and began packing.

Finally moved in to her dorm with her cat, Mika felt at peace. She started fall classes and became familiar with the campus quickly. Again visiting the library was a perfect downtime activity. She had decided she wanted to start work study and began working at the campus coffee shop, where she met Colleen. Colleen was her first true friend she had made throughout her life, which she became very fond of. As months passed their friendship grew into a relationship, the love they have for each other is something many would envy.
