Profile

Personality

Chiyo is a sympathetic and understanding old lady. She is often regarded as a motherly figure to those around her, if not grandmotherly. She has been through a lot in the past, hence why she is so understanding and sympathetic with other peoples' struggles. She has no tolerance for prejudice of any sort and is a very open-minded old woman.

Though she often looks happy, she has a tendency to cry when she's alone. She misses her husband dearly and never completely "got over" his death. She soldiers on the best she can with the time she has left.

Bio

1940s and 1950s

Born male to Japanese-American internment camp survivors. Growing up, Chiyo faced racist prejudice from neighborhood kids. It also didn't help that she tended to be more interested in more female-oriented activities. Even as a child, she wished that she had been born a girl. Puberty only made that desire worse.

1960s and 1970s

As a teenager, Chiyo developed a love for rock n roll. She was a part of Beatlemania, and even went to a Beatles concert (though she regretted it due to the fangirls screaming so loud, she couldn't hear the music). She would often find herself absorbed in music, and found it as an escape when times were tough.

During the mid-60s she had moved to Greenwich village in New York. There she discovered an LGBT community, including transgender individuals. Upon such discovery, she realized who she was and began living her life as a woman. Romance was really hard for her; living as a trans woman over all was already difficult as is. She struggled with finding a steady partner and maintaining her identity. That is until she met Leo. Leo loved Chiyo unconditionally and respected her as a woman, even when others didn't. They provided support for each other when they faced discrimination (including discrimination within the lgbt community).

The couple took part in anti-war protests, as well as the Stonewall riots, supported the Civil Rights movement, and even went to Woodstock. Leo and Chiyo both shared a love for music.

During the early 70s, the couple moved elsewhere for a fresh start.

Chiyo and Leo saved up money for Chiyo to get a sex-change, which she eventually did at one point. Sometime after the operation, after trial and error, Chiyo and Leo got married, after being denied several times previously.

1980s and 1990s

After having worked at other bakeries and then some for years, Chiyo, with help from Leo, opened up a bakery of their own. The bakery became an LGBT-safe zone, and even provided support for AIDS foundations and research by making goods for the cause. Together, Leo and Chiyo employed struggling teenagers and adults to help get people back on their feet and give them work experience. This cause still goes on to this day.

2000s and 2010s

Leo, sadly, ended up passing away near the end of the 2000s; it was a devastating blow for Chiyo. To this day, she's not completely over his death. She never remarried. To this day, Chiyo carries on with the bakery.

 Relationships

  • Minty - Chiyo met Minty when she was going through a very rough point in her life, and gave her a fresh start by offering her a place to stay and offering to teach her how to bake. Chiyo saw that she was a struggling transwoman and Chiyo could sympathise what she was going through. Chiyo helped Minty become the independant woman she is today.
