Carter Cao  [ boyfriend ]

Rico's partner in both work and life, Carter completes Rico in a way no one has yet managed- together, they're a perfect storm of creativity, passion, impulsive decisions, and bad monster movie dates. Rico's attempted burglary of Carter's house (for good reasons, he says!) may not have been the best meetcute, but they can't deny that it set them on a welcome path. Carter's initial interest in Rico is fueled by curiosity about his strange magic power, but it quickly delves deeper as he notices Rico's drive to succeed and genuine heart. And Rico, while at first motivated by how "fucking cool being friends with a wizard would be," cares deeply for Carter and his unwavering devotion to what he loves. Rico always says that no matter what comes his way, he can take it as long as he's by Carter's side.

Jett Johnson  [ boss/honorary dad ]

Jett has been Rico's mentor in more ways than one. Little fifth grade Rico with largely absent (albeit caring) parents was seeking someone to call a friend, and found a grizzled old biker running an antique shop who, despite outward appearance, took the time out of his day to listen to him babble. Jett has taught Rico everything from vehicle repair to important old man life lessons, and Rico comes to Jett any time he feels lost. Nowadays, he works as an on-call repairman for Jett's shop and lives in the apartment above, so Jett can't get rid of him no matter how hard he tries. Not that he wants to- he would never admit it aloud, but he's proud to have been there for him all those years and amazed to see him grow.

Cameron Wilcox  [ best friend ]

Rico considers Cameron his first true friend and first crush. Cameron, on initial meeting in middle school, took Rico's quirks and odd stories at face value, which is exactly what Rico needed at the time, and they became fast friends. Cameron is cool, down-to-earth, and one of the nicest guys in the world, which explains why Rico fell head-over-heels during a time where he was coming to terms with his sexuality. Unfortunately for him, nothing came to pass, but the pair have stayed inseperable. Cameron now travels the world as a touring guitarist in his own band and Rico is his number one fan, and when the two reunite, it's like no time has passed at all.

Lewis  [ mentor??? ]

Lewis has taken it upon himself to recognize Rico's flaws and fix them. A seasoned cursebreaker with the same power as Rico but greater magical knowledge, Lewis asserts that if Rico is to be helping Carter at all, he should take it upon himself to "be more intelligent." Luckily, Lewis is here to help! Probably. Rico can't help but feel unsafe around the guy, especially noting the ease with which he inserted himself into Carter and Rico's life. But nothing on the outside implies danger, really- not even Lewis slowly adopting some of Rico's prominent quirks and mannerisms. That can probably be chalked up to jealousy, right?
