Nik was born to Clair and Stefan Fischer, a French immigrant and a native to Hevete. They didn't intend to have him, exactly, but they considered him a blessing. Neither parent had the highest salary, just enough to get by with their family of 3.

So when his little sister, Aimèe, came along... there wasn't enough to go around. They started to struggle, never having enough to feed all 4. So Nik left. Left home without a word, and by all means, they thought he was dead. It crushed them, but life goes on. They continued to raise Aimèe, pretending that her older brother was a distant memory. Meanwhile, Nik picked up a job at a news station as an intern journalist.

After suffering the loss of Tiago Edebiri, his close friend and brother figure, Nik disassociates himself from the world around him.

He ends up getting shot as a result of absent trespassing, and decides then and there that he's done. It's over. There's nothing more he can do for himself in Hevete. He had wanted to stay, make it a better place for the next generation- his sister. But he can't keep going like this.

After Nik's impulse decision to move away, he decided on Meles. It was a city far enough away. He worked more jobs, saved up, and managed to scrape together just enough for the move and a shitty apartment.

And on a whim, he opened Craigslist to see if any people needed roommates. He found Simon O'Connell, a man covering 70% of rent; not hard up, just someone who needed company. A bartender, like Tiago. He reached out, they hit it off, now they live together.
