From a well off merchant family, there wasn't much Yuka wanted for. He adored traveling with his parents and even had a servant around his own age to play with. Granted the young panther wasn't aware they were a slave instead of an adopted employee, they got along well enough that it didn't seem to make a difference. The pair were inseparable, and the young addition to the family was soon an ingrained member. Traveling the lands was a fun and slightly dangerous profession, the small family making friends, dealing with bad weather, celebrating all sorts of newfound holidays in towns.
Tragedy struck however, in the form of a bandit attack on the small wagon. In broad daylight, the wagon was driven off a steep cliff, sliding down to crash against the trees below. Easy prey for the bandits with a broken axle, the family was reduced to half, the two young boys taken hostage in the camp. The bandits of course not knowing about Yuka's feline form, he was able to slip from his bars. He tried his best to free the other from their cage, but when a shout from the man on guard had him bristling before he could grab the key, the feline was off.
A mistake he paid dearly for after. Try as he might, every time he attempted to get back into the camp, he was chased off with rope and knives. The bandits having the advantage, Yuka spent years trying to reach the inner site. He tried to beg for help from the local towns, but was met with a wave of the hand each time for a newly broke merchant's son.
Distressed, alone, and persistent, he did eventually meet with his friend again. The small child much older now, the night the two met again was a night of bloodshed. While he wasn't sure what they had done to his childhood friend, they were less than happy to see Yuka. Yelling about it being his fault for them losing the one family they had acquired, for leaving them behind, for not returning, for everything, they loved him and he just dragged it all through the mud. As much as he tried to explain how hard he kept attempting to get in, it was met with teeth and claws from the other. Chasing Yuka off all the way into town.
Doing his best to make up for the continued bashing, he continued to return to them, trying to bring food, clothing, water. They had taken refuge in the bandit's camp, so it wasn't hard to find them. Since they didn't move from the spot, he was staying hopeful that he could eventually earn their forgiveness as well, though with each passing day, each new scratch from visiting, he grew more depressed at the physical and emotional wounds from the other.
