the reason his colors and markings somewhat change when hes using magic is because when he was a filly he had snuck up on zecora while she was making one of her potions and he scared her and cause the potion to splash all over him which was a color changing potion, but it wasnt completely made so now his colors shift when ever he uses his magic.
