Backstory

     Growing up in a small town on the outskirts of Shinwa City, Meili had a rough childhood.  When she was born, she was exceptionally small and her parents abandoned the baby girl due to her small size compared to her siblings.  She was fortunate enough to be taken in by a kind hearted stranger who cared for her until she was able to fend for herself in the crime-ridden town.  They taught her how to protect herself and how to live on the streets and survive.  She was also taught as a young girl to close herself off and not to trust anyone, the environment being one where people would go missing everyday with no one questioning it proving to her that it wasn't worth getting close to anyone.
     But she did feel a bond with the one who took care of her, helping them in any way she could to repay their kindness.  Despite their warnings, she had a soft spot for her mentor and unknowingly thought of them as family.  During these more comfortable days of her childhood, her mind conjured up a romantic fantasy about one day being whisked away and saved from the unsafe environment she currently lived in.  She knew it wasn't worth it to get close to others, but the idyllic fantasy remained in the back of her mind.
     However, the comfort of having someone to rely on wouldn't last long.  In the environment of the town, it wasn't long before her mentor became one of the long list of people who went missing and Meili was left all alone.  The pain of losing the only person she cared about caused her to closed off her heart even further, her harsh attitude and growing combat skills deterring the criminals of the town from targeting her.
     She spent years protecting herself and managing to get by on her own, but became cynical of the romanticized idea of her youth.  She decided that it wasn't worth it to stay in the same place and continue to wait until someone would rescue her and moved into the main city of Shinwa, confident that she could protect herself in this environment too.  She wanted to find something or someone that she could care about again, the isolation of her cold heart causing her to question why she was even bothering to go on in such a directionless existence.
     Living in the slums of the city, Meili retained her cautious nature and harsh attitude to protect herself.  Having recently evolved into a Mienshao, she was still trying to get used to her new strength when a group of assailants attacked in an attempted robbery.  She couldn't fend off all of them as she tried to escape, her unfamiliarity with her new power causing her to struggle with her typical attacks.
     Just when she thought she was defeated and would be beaten by the enraged attackers at her attempt to defend herself, a massive figure appeared.  He moved much faster than his size would suggest he was capable of and the apparently agitated man dispatched the criminals before he even noticed Meili was there, finishing off the criminals while the young woman watched in silent awe.
     Meili instantly admire her savior, appreciating the rescue and his aggressive fighting style.  She learned that his name was Yaohou and requested to be his disciple.  Although the man refused, Meili followed him and insisted upon it incessantly.  He observed her fighting style and saw potential in the woman as she adjusted to her new strength and stopped completely denying her requests, allowing her to follow him.  Meili sticks by his side often and will proudly declare herself his apprentice when given the opportunity.
