As a human, Samael (then known as Sam) lived an ordinary life, an ordinary job and an ordinary family and an ordinary death. However, when he found out the afterlife existed and he became one of the angels amongst heaven, Samael decided to become more influential and stop being ordniary. He changed his name to Samael, much more fitting for an angel, and eventually rose his way up the ranks of Irothal's militia.
He found himself running it and on Irothal's council at time, taking up the task of monitoring Urmosa and the positions of each of the demons, notably Raith, the only demon that seemed to live in the overworld. Whilst he and his army are not strong enough on their own to restrict Raith to Urmosa, he is trying to persuade the council to take diplomatic action.
